Design Toscano Blackfriar's Gate Wall Torchiere Lamp

These are very nice torches, nicely detailed and exactly as pictured. I purchased two hoping to use them on rack side of a headboard but they are not mirror image (left and right). When mounted it is slightly offset to the left so you can’t use them as a set. They are still a very nice pieces and I will find a use for them somewhere else.

I wish they would offer a left and right hand pair. Being both left hands, there is no symmetry if you want to put them on the sides of a mirror or a painting, etc. The arm and the base that mounts to the wall are not on a level vertical line with the light globe, so if you want the sconce 12 inches from the edge of the mirror/painting, you have to decide whether to use the globe or the arm/base as your reference. Either way it looks wrong. I finally gave up and used a different Toscano dragon sconce model - the Marshgate Castle - which is more symmetrical.

Bought two for my basement wall and I had an electrician convert the power cord ends into direct current wiring so that I wouldn't have a black electrical lamp cord climbing down the wall. Along with a dimmer switch on the wall, these light sconces impress. The original black cord has one of those inline cord switches where you slowly spin a wheel in order to turn the lamp on and off. The bulbs are not intense; 40W rather than a 60 or 100W. I've not gone online yet to see how difficult it will be to find replacement bulbs when they burn out. The talon's arm and glass globe arrived completely undamaged thanks to the packaging, which is excellent.

Installed one on back porch, one one front porch of a cabin in the woods. Awesome at night with yellow light bulbs. Lots of compliments. Durable, very well made.
