DigiTech DOD Chthonic Blue Fuzz Pedal for Guitars and Amps

The DigiTech DOD Chthonic Fuzz Pedal in Blue (pronouncedTHAH-nik) creates fat, corpulent, fudgy, sludgy, fuzz tones designed to pairperfectly with single-coil, P90, gold-foil, and DeArmond style pickups. It alsoworks great with PAF-style humbuckers, but this fuzz was designed with brighterguitars and bright, clean amps in mind. Starting with a beloved single-knob‘70’s fuzz circuit, DigiTech experimented with adding a subtle tone control(Luster), and then a separate gain control (Fuzz). This yielded a simple yetpowerful fuzz with an earthy, dark flavor. Straight-up transistor clippingusing a pair of 2N2222 transistors allows guitar volume knob clean-up similarto other classic fuzzes, but the Chthonic comes from a different dimension.Think of it as a kind of classic fuzz from an alternate universe. TheChthonic’s Kraken and Cthulhu graphics are courtesy of the same artist that didthe Carcosa Fuzz art. The Chthonic is a psychotic dizygotic dark companion tothe Carcosa Fuzz that takes its place in the pantheon of the underworld.Placement of the DOD Chthonic FuzzThe Cthonic Fuzz is designed to be first in the chain. This will allow it tointeract with the guitar pickups and volume control. Rolling off the guitarvolume just a tiny bit will yield the best results, and rolling it back to 7 or8 will allow the Chthonic to clean up to a nice overdrive. Rolling the guitarvolume to 5 will yield sparkling clean tones. This sensitivity also makes theChthonic react to the capacitance of longer cables, so try to keep the cable tothe input to the Chthonic as short as possible. Also, avoid having any pedalsbefore the Chthonic as the buffer will affect the tone.Setup of the DOD Chthonic FuzzStart with all the controls at 12:00, their midpoint. Then adjust to taste. Ifthe result is too extreme, then turn the Fuzz and Lustre controls down to alower setting. All settings will be heavily dependent on the output level ofyour instrument, your amplifier, and your playing style.Other FeaturesFuzz control is used to control the intensity of the fuzz. Turn left for lessfuzz, and right for more. Output control is used to set the output level of thepedal. Luster control allows the player to turn down high frequencies after themain distortion stages of the pedal. Press the footswitch to turn the effect onor off. The LED power indicator lights up when the pedal is on. Connect yourinstrument or the output of another effect pedal to the input connector.Connect the output connector to the input of your amplifier or your othereffects. The pedal has a darker fuzz designed for brighter guitars and amps.Subtle tone control retains pick attack throughout the entire range. It offersexcellent clean-up with the guitar volume knob.
