Q: what holds this bed up? The sides are supported by form or is there no support?
A: It's very thick foam that is covered with Sherpa and then there is a heavy denim material on the outside. It stays up very well.

Q: Does this stay open as shown? (doesn't collapse.)
A: It does not collapse. It's a thick foam that is covered with Sherpa. My cat actually sat on top of it but when she got off I stuck my hand in and popped it back up and it's good. It's very sturdy.

My new cat is a tiny little munchkin and she decided she is done with getting beat up and has recently decided that she will be living in the cave now. So i have two of the exact same cave but they don’t care about the new one. TLDR: Highly recommend this item, but only buy one.

Q: Is the fabric sewn on, or is there a removable layer?

A: There is no removable cover. It's sewn together. It's a thick foam, covered with Sherpa, and then a very thick and sturdy denim like material.
