I just finished Don’t Burn Your Own House Down by Lindsey Maestas and it hit home in the best way!! I don’t typically read marriage content, but I really enjoyed it because it doesn’t feel preachy or clinical. Lindsey says the raw and honest things but with love. She is extra transparent about her own marriage struggles, which makes this book even more relatable. The whole premise is about how marriages don’t usually implode overnight. they slowly drift because of small habits, lack of effort, annoyances, and small resentments . And she gently but clearly calls that out. She doesn’t just focus on how to “fix your spouse.” She encourages you to take ownership and asks how you’re showing up in your marriage. It’s faith-based, but also practical. Lindsey gives real examples, real struggles, and real steps you can actually apply to improve your marriage or prepare for the future if you aren’t married yet. I highly recommend this for anyone in the thick of life with young kids, balancing busy schedules, or just in a blah or heavy season.

A MUST READ!!!
This book was such a refreshing and much-needed read!! I’ve read a lot of marriage and relationship books, but Don’t Burn Your Own House Down stood out to me because the advice is grounded in God’s truth but also gives clear, actionable steps you can apply immediately for a happier marriage. I sat and read with my husband each night and he was as engaged as I was, which is rare! Lindsey doesn’t only encourage you toward what healthy marriage can look like, she shows you how to actually live it out, even in the messy, hard moments. She tackles tough topics with honesty, humor, and grace, and I loved how real-life situations were included throughout the book. It felt extremely relatable. I found myself pausing a lot to reflect and to check my own heart. My book is full of highlighter marks 😂 and I know I’ll come back again and again. Definitely worth the read!!

Wow. What an incredible book.
Wow. I just finished this book. It kept my attention the entire time and that last chapter was incredible. It was eye-opening and made me cry. Self-help books can sometimes feel really prescriptive to me, but I loved this book because every chapter was really unique. It mixed personal storytelling and very interesting studies. It wasn’t predictable like a lot of marriage books are. The author managed to touch on nearly every modern marriage topic without it feeling forced in any way. It flowed really well. I’ve been a listener of Lindsey's podcast for years and learned even more about her life, her insight, biblical truth, and marriage research through DBYOHD. It really resonated with so much of my life. I think any couple, dating, engaged, or married from 1-50 years, would benefit from her wisdom. Highly, highly recommend!

THIS IS THE BOOK!!!
There a lot of great books on marriage, but this one is set apart. I highly recommend this book no matter what stage you’re in: engaged, newlywed, blissfully happy or maybe you’re just over it and ready to shut it down. There is so much wisdom packed into these pages to help you protect, be proactive and fight for your marriage. For those of you who may be struggling, Lindsey‘s solution is not the easy way out. Work will be involved, but the work is an investment that’s meaningful and lasting. What I also love so much about this book is that Lindsey doesn’t teach you to be a meek pushover (like some of the Christian marriage books I’ve read) She coaches well on setting boundaries, self respect and the power you have in choosing how to show up. Her ability to teach on relational communication is a gift. I appreciate her vulnerability in sharing about her own marriage and I love the way that she so clearly describes the feelings so many of us go through that are hard to put to words. I feel so seen. I wish every married person had this book. Be sure to follow Lindsey’s socials as well! She creates a lot of great content on a regular basis. I think it would be really cool to see a workbook come out of this! :D

Don't Burn Your Own House Down
I loved listening to Lindsey’s podcast and was so excited- waiting for her book release! She keeps biblical truth as the foundation and is crucial that it’s not about *feelings* but about refining of our faith in us.
