ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential

Easy set up, good app, was on sale, but can’t figure out how to get the rebate that it promises

You can’t go wrong investing in this thermostat. Our power company provides a hefty rebate on purchase price. If you connect this to your internet WiFi, you can check on the temperature while on vacation. Ecobee provides energy report too! Great product

Great thermostat. I chose this one as I think some of the advance features are overkilling it. I am still trying to understand some of the menu items - it's not as user friendly as the Nest. Also I haven't been able to figure out how to change the language of the interface - it only displays in English,

The ecobee essential, i have 2, seem to show the room temp incorrectly?!? Always off by 1-2 degrees? Why is that?

Call me old fashioned but I like simple and easy to operate thermostats. When looking for a wifi thermostat, I tried many finally ending with the Ecobee Essential. It is the perfect mix of simple operating features, easy to install and set up, and settings that allow additional control of the AC and Heat if needed. If you don't need all the extra features of the higher units, this is the perfect choice.

I have a dead spot in my house where the thermostat is installed, so the HVAC was on for way more than it needed to be. I installed the Ecobee with one remote sensor that I placed in a bedroom. Then I set up my comfort settings so that the main thermostat wasn't considered. This allowed the remote sensor to control the HVAC, and it worked like a charm to keep the house at the temperature I want without over using the HVAC. These seem expensive, but when you think of the infrastructure that they are maintaining to allow phone apps/browsers to control the devices, it seems worth the few extra dollars.

I’ve had this product for a couple of weeks. Easy to use is basic mode. Although it allows you to program daily changes I prefer to change the temperature in real time. I prefer to do it using the iPhone app which works fine.

I love how this product allows me to remotely turn it on and off. That’s very helpful for people who have children in the home

We purchased our ecobee Essential because we recently had a new HVAC unit installed downstairs (we have two units), it included an ecobee 3 Lite, and we wanted one for our existing upstairs unit as well. I installed the Essential myself, and it was very easy to install. The ecobee App guided me through every step of the installation, from removing my old digital (non-smart) thermostat, to connecting my new Essential to my Wi-Fi network (I'd already downloaded the ecobee app to my phone, and had been using it with my Lite). I didn't need to use the Trim Kit or the PEK (Power Extension Kit), as my old thermostat didn't leave an "Outline" on the wall, and the thermostat I was replacing already had a "C" ("Common") connection. The only issue I had during installation was getting the Essential to sit flush with the wall, but this was easily solved by pushing the wires further into the wall. The integration with (Amazon) Alexa, Google Home, and (Samsung) Smart Things is great and works well, as I can get current settings and adjust them through all of my smart devices. My other family members were also able to download the ecobee App onto their phones, so that they may control both of our ecobees as well. I also love how the ecobees look on the wall. The design is so futuristic and sleek, and the interface on the ecobees themselves is very easy to use (the ecobee app is also very easy to use as well). The Lite replaced a nearly 25-year-old analog thermostat that looked like it was from the 1980s, while the Essential replaced a digital one that was only about eight years old. I'm still learning how to use my ecobees, but the videos and tips on the ecobee website and YouTube Channel are very helpful. The only downside I can think of is that no ecobee is compatible with the wiring setup of my third unit (for my addition/sunroom) that has a 20-year-old digital thermostat (I confirmed this with ecobee Support, whom I found to be very helpful), and I wish they would be compatible with separate "O" and "B" wires (if ecobee ever decides to make a thermostat that supports these types of connections, I'd love to buy a third one). Overall, I would highly recommend the ecobee Essential to anyone looking to save money on their energy bill, or just simply want to replace their old "Dumb" thermostat.

It was installed by an HVAC contractor. It works great and allows me to easily adjust the temperature. I like the automatic "setting at x degrees until 6:30 am or 11:30 pm". Great feature.

I’ve used the Sensi and Nest Learning (3rd Gen) thermostats before, but the Ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential is by far the easiest to operate—both through the app and the on-screen touch controls. It was also super easy to integrate with HomeKit. Simple, reliable, and user-friendly!

After a bad experience with another smart thermometer (why make it so difficult!), this one is a breath of fresh air.

I changed over from another popular thermostat brand that is sold by a major internet search engine company. I upgraded because I do not like the idea of said company tracking me everywhere I go and monitoring everything I do. Ecobee was simpler to set up and is easier to operate, but has the same functionality as my previous smart thermostat. Recommend for first time smart thermostat buyers and also anyone who does not want to give up 100% of their personal information to a large search engine company.

So far very easy to use and very informative. I do like the various features for programming and review.

It was very easy to install very easy to set up and their is a app to download and we don't ever have to mess with heat or air again it does it all on its own to our set up and we are able to use our phone or Alexa to adjust heat or air if needed without getting up or being home. I have already purchased another for inlaws. Absolutely would recommend.
