Description
Book Synopsis
The exquisite illustrations of Marjolein Bastin meet timeless text in this elegant special edition of an English masterpiece. The Marjolein Bastin Classics Series is a chance to rediscover classic literature in collectible, luxuriously illustrated volumes. For the first time ever, the internationally celebrated artwork of Marjolein Bastin graces the pages of the timeless classic, Emma, the story of the well-meaning matchmaker of Highbury village. Beyond bringing these stories to life, Bastin's series adds elaborately designed ephemera, such as letters, invitations, and more. Whether an ideal gift for an Austen devotee or a treat for yourself, The Marjolein Bastin Classics Series, as a set or individually purchased, is perfect for anyone who feels a connection to these enduring literary gems. Discover anew the dramatic world of Emma. Emma Woodhouse is the most influential young woman in the tranquil village of Highbury, where she lives with her father. As a rich heiress, she is absolutely determined never to marry, though she entertains herself with all kinds of matchmaking attempts for her friends and acquaintances. Doing so causes a number of misunderstandings and embarrassments, to the point that Mr. Knightley, the family's closest friend, intervenes and sharply criticizes Emma. While Emma admits her mistake and makes attempts at gradual damage control, she falls in love after all. . . .About the Author
Marjolein Bastin's passion for the natural world is of a universal quality that appeals to people the world over. You can find Marjolein's artwork on greeting cards, calendars, dinnerware, bedding, gifts, and many other products. But for Marjolein, only one thing remains important: spend every day behind her desk painting the natural world around her. She also writes and illustrates children's books featuring the endearing Vera the Mouse character, which she created. Through her art and words, Marjolein offers people a simple reminder to pause and enjoy nature and allow it to be a source of serenity, energy, and healing. Finding inspiration in a bird lighting on a branch or a leaf drying in the autumn sun, Marjolein takes long walks each afternoon to seek new ideas for her artwork and her writings. Marjolein and her husband, Gaston, divide their time between country homes in Holland, Switzerland, and in Missouri, as well a tropical retreat in the Cayman Islands. Each setting provides a unique glimpse of what nature has to offer throughout the world. The couple has a son, Mischa, a daughter, Sanna, and two grandchildren.Dimensions (Overall): 9.7 Inches (H) x 7.0 Inches (W) x 1.4 Inches (D)

I purchase this after seeing it on Beautifu Books channel on Youtube and I love it! The front cover is textured (you can feel the flowers on the cover!!!!), the binding is sewn, and the pages are thick and easy to read. Marjalein Bashin is a nature artist and majority of the pages are full of her flowers. There are 10 paper inserts that inspired me to add my own for my favorite scense. I love this so much as a joyful whimsical read at home with my cup of tea, classical music, and fancy dress. With that said, there are a few notes for determining if this version of Emma is for you. The additions are tucked in the pages like you would do with a diary causing this to be an at home book. You would not want to travel with this book. (I feel like this makes it a more interactive read and love it.) It also does not come with any essays, annanots, or additional information on the story or arthor. The artwork is for beauty and not illustration purposes. If you are looking for a copy to really study and pour over. This is not it. (You also may not want this for your first Jane Austin experiance since you are basically on your own for understanding the text and time period.) If you are already familiure with Jane Austin's writing style and just want a more interactive experiance at home, or something to help rekindle the love, this is a great version to add to the collection. (It also looks really beautiful on a table.)
Deceptive, waste of money

I bought 2 of these for my daughter who is a huge Austen fan. What a disappointment. There are NO, repeat ZERO illustrations of characters or scenes from the novel; instead every few pages has a few insipid drawings of flowers and birdies . That’s it. The “extras” including Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth and maps of Highbury are simply inserted loose between random pages: no pockets to keep them in place and no list or index. The “Emma” extras consist primarily for recipes for some reason, as well as a letter to Austen’s publisher. These would have been just as useful if they had been printed on pages in the book, but most of them aren’t useful at all: there is nothing that contributes to one’s understanding or knowledge of the novels. Huge waste of money. There are better illustrated and annotated editions than this overpriced piffle.
Beautiful book from a beautiful collection! Must have!

This is a beautiful edition of Emma (that I’m currently reading). There are no words to describe the beautiful artwork but also the special things included—I don’t want to spoil it, but I must say I LOVE buying books at Target and highly recommend it. These books come wrapped in plastic and my book orders from Target are well-packed. Even if you already have a copy of Emma, you WILL want this edition too. I recommend!!
Love this!
