A: This was the exact reason I purchased this gate myself! I used it at the bottom of our stairs at night to keep him from "disrupting" our sleep. Closing our doors is not an option as I need to hear our daughter if she calls out. This gate worked pretty good at first, but he discovered he could just jump over it! Our cat is a Persian and they have a tendency to be a little lazier than most other breeds! I used some cardboard on top of the gate to create a sort of deflector, so when he looked up all he saw was cardboard..... that kept him out!
