bright lightweight little lantern
This small Eveready lantern is lightweight, and its light is bright. It just needs 2 small lightweight AA batteries. It is easy to carry and can sit on just about any surface. I bought a second one so I can put them in different rooms if power goes out again.

did I get a dud?
I used 4 batteries and it's such a dim light. I removed 2 and noticed no difference in brightness. Nowhere near as bright as other review photos. Maybe I got a bad one, but this does not light up much of anything.

Battery lifetime: Excellent. With four Energizer Max batteries, I get close to the rated 100 hours. The light begins dimming at about 20 hours and is quite dim by 80 hours, a feat which can only be accomplished with thoughtful engineering. Most LEDs flicker and suddenly die rather than gracefully dimming. Light color: "cold" white (slightly blue) with poor color rendition. Light pattern: Most of the light is cast to the side. Good for a room during a power outage; terrible for lighting ones way down a path. The pattern is even--no particularly bright or dark spots. Controls: Simple and easily pressed on/off button.

Love this lil dude!
Love this lil dude! After reading the reviews that it was more like a night light than a flashlight, that was fine with me cuz that's exactly what I wanted. First off, this thing runs on two or four batteries which is a unique feature. It actually does illuminate a full room if you needed to get around, but I just wanted something that was a soft light for that purpose to use at night rather than turning the overhead light on in my room. Since the casing allows the light to come out in all directions, I can keep it on a little shelf spot in a window between my kitchen & main room to illuminate both sides. The plastic is a sort of soft but hard plastic so doesn't crack easily. It fell down one time but didn't crack at all. It's lightweight and the button in the front is easy to use to turn it on. So basically I use it as a full room night light and it's perfect, but again, you could still use it as a flashlight as well if you just needed to get around with a basic enough elimination.

This is a good light for emergencies and it is super bright when batteries are brand new, but over time gets dimmer and dimmer. That was my only complaint. Says it can last 100 hours, but after less than 24 it was WAY dimmer.

Handy little light
I bought these to put on picnic tables around a campfire. They worked out perfectly for this purpose. They gave off enough light to see what is on the table without blinding you. I appreciate the handle which makes it easy to carry or even hang if you wanted. Very lightweight. Interesting, it has the option to work on either two or four AA batteries.

Depends on what you need it for
I wanted a very simple portable light that I could find (weird shape) and turn on easily (one button) if the electricity went out at night. Then I learned to use it in darker areas of the house, like the hallway where there is no outlet for a lamp, and for a little more light when I'm reading at night. It only has one brightness level, which is more like a glorified nightlight, so that's why it only gets 4 stars.
