Review Quotes

A 2024 Rise: A Feminist Book Project Selection

"Ehlert and Tu offer a primer on body neutrality...The illustrations include enough kinds of people, all shown as friendly, rounded, and smiling, that nearly all readers will be able to point at someone and say, "That's like me!" ...Honest, loving, and powerful."
-Kirkus (starred)

"The art is engaging and showcases the wide spectrum of fellow humans with varied, lively vignettes and spreads...This positive look at the differences we see and enjoy everywhere we look every day is an important viewpoint that should help children see differences that are to be celebrated in every corner of our world."
-School Library Journal (starred)

"Employing digestible, body-neutral text in this necessary read, Ehlert explains many ways that bodies can look and behave as they "take us through the world.".. Via sometimes abstract, sometimes fully detailed illustrations, Tu's scribbly, thin-lined art depicts characters of various abilities, ages, body types, and skin tones."
-Publishers Weekly (starred)

About the Author

Molli Jackson Ehlert grew up in Miami, Florida where she fell in love with cooking, animals, and helping others. Having grown up in a larger body, Molli knows first hand the disrespect and lack of acceptance people face when they are seen as "different". Currently residing in West Orange, New Jersey, Molli is a mother to an active toddler she hopes will grow up with an open mind and an open heart. She is the author of Everybody Has a Body.

Lorian Tu is an author and illustrator of children's books, living in New England with her family. When she's not making art, she's probably exploring the forest and mountains, working in the garden, or making something yummy to eat and share. She loves music and reading, watching old movies, and spending time with loved ones. She is the illustrator of Everybody Has a Body.

I liked the diversity that included a child in a wheelchair which is one of the reasons I purchased. My 6 yr old nephew uses a wheelchair. I thought it would have been nice for him to see someone like him. The book represents various body shapes and other physically challenged ppl. I returned it due to two females as a couple and other LGBTQ members are represented which is fine for adults but I feel inappropriate to introduce to my 6 year old nephew. It's geared toward the younger reader. Good book otherwise.
