Q: Is this model square shape or round? the main product picture shows standard round shape, but other photos show a square design (which I like!)

A:Â As it turns out, i'm answering this question myself. I ordered one of these, it's not square its round as shown in the main product picture, the extra pictures that show a square shape are NOT this product. Target please note ... update the pictures! I'm sure this is a fine smoke alarm and at a good price but the unusual square shape in photos might be attractive to some buyers who will be disappointed to receive a run-of-the-mill round alarm.

Ordered on-line and picked up within 2 hours at the store. I like this "old school" smoke alarm as when the 9 Volt battery stops working you just replace with another 9 Volt battery. I had 2 of the fancier, more expensive smoke alarms that said they had 10 yr battery life - read the SMALL print - it is much less in dry climates - maybe you will get 2 yrs if you are lucky and then you have to replace the whole unit. This was easy to install and will be much easier to maintain!

The thing started screaming at three in the morning for no apparent reason. No smoke, no spiders, no other alarms in the building going off. Felt the walls for electrical fire and nothing. Checked cords for electrical fire, nothing. Woke me and my mom up at 3 AM, and likely my upstairs if not downstairs neighbors, at 3 AM, for nothing. Upstairs already didn't like us because we don't tolerate night noise and now here we are with an alarm going off at 3 in the morning. At least installation and uninstallation is easy.

I am returning the two detectors we bought! The detector started sending a low battery signal only a few hours after my husband installed a (new and fully charged) battery in it for the first time. Don't waste your time and money on it!

Good and cheap smoke alarm that doesn't sound its alarm when the humidity is very high, or you're cooking at high temperatures (not even burning things!) like my last ionization alarm which went off constantly because of high humidity days and nights. Also, very low profile.

previous detector went off whenever I opened the oven at 400 degrees or higher, even after cleaning the oven. This photoelectric detector solved that problem. I will buy another for outside the bathroom.

We purchased a variety of models to hang throughout our house. This one didn't go off with the cookies baking the way another model did. I want a working smoke detector, but not have to shut it off every time the oven gets hot!

Unit seemed to work fine until I put it on the ceiling. Then it chirped about once an hour for no reason. Tried going to First Alert's website, and this model doesn't even exist on their site. Call FA support, they couldn't find it either nor could they explain why it chirps once a hour or so for no reason. Not worth the hassle trying to figure out whats wrong with it, and will return it to the store for a 'standard' model, not one that is exclusive to Target. BTW, I would love to know why there are 5 different pictures for this model on the website, and none are correct! This is a half height round unit, not square, no vents, etc.
