Q: Is there a screw option to install? I truly hate double stick tape to hang things.

submitted by BB - 3 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. There is a screw option for installation of this unit.

  • A: Thank you for your question. All our alarms come with mounting screws- other than the AC units. We do not want consumers to install using any other means- other than the screws/anchors that are sent with the alarms.

Q: How can this test for carbon monoxide if it isn't near the floor? Or test for smoke if it is near the floor, but not near the ceiling?

submitted by Missneekole - 7 years ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out. Although there is a myth that carbon monoxide is heavier than air, it's actually slightly lighter than air and it diffuses throughout the room/house evenly. According to a peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Emergency Medicine, the installation height of your CO alarm doesn't affect the alarm's performance. This means you do NOT need to install alarms near the floor. When you decide where to install a carbon monoxide alarm, choose a location where the alarm will stay clean and out of the way of children or pets.

  • A: Carbon monoxide is lighter than air and diffuses pretty evenly throughout a room. Therefore, placement at or near the ceiling is fine.

Q: Does this unit only have one alarm that sounds for both smoke and carbon monoxide or are there separate alarm sounds within this one unit for either? Hope this question makes sense. Thanks

submitted by flutiegrin - 1 year ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. During a carbon monoxide event, the carbon monoxide LED will flash red and the horn pattern is 4 beeps, pause, 4 beeps, pause. During a smoke event, the smoke LED will flash red and the horn pattern is 3 beeps, pause, 3beeps, pause. If you have any additional questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly at First Alert Customer Support.

Q: In the case of false alarms (i.e.--burning food on the stove, etc.), how do you stop the alarm if you can't pull out the battery?

Q: From your answer above: “ We do not want consumers to install using any other means- other than the screws/anchors ” assume there is no double sided sticky tape ( or some non screw method). Is that correct?

submitted by Sn - 3 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. We do not recommend any other installation method.

Q: Is this product legitimate? As in, actually reliable & worth the $50 price tag for a single device? Reviewers who have this alarm got it for free..... I’ll likely be returning solely based on that. Sketchy Target! Sketchy.

Mamabear - 1 year ago
I had this installed for less than a year before it started chirping due to low battery. I have read about this issue on other First Alert smoke alarms. I tried to disable it, but it just kept chirping. I just wanted to get rid of it so I didn’t try to return or contact the manufacturer. Can’t believe I paid the money for this and then had to throw it away so soon. What a waste.

Same as the last few reviews. Purchased 7 months ago and it’s giving off false alarms. Second time in a few days. I was worried it was the CO2 but figured out it was the smoke alarm. After checking the house at 4 am I realized it was false. Not sure if I can return or not but going to try and figure something out.

BROKE IN 10 months; fire dept said do not buy this brand

Madisen - 1 year ago
This broke in 10 months. We had to call the fire department out because it went off. This was one of many calls they received this week that ended up being due to faulty First Alert Alarms. This was our second faulty First Alert alarm. I replaced the last one, assuming it was an outlier, but it clearly wasn’t. Both died very quickly in malfunctions. DO NOT BUY

Purchased this alarm this past Sept. and it’s already giving false alarms. Had to take it down and of course, we’re past the return window. It has also gone up significant in price since I bought it, almost double! Ridiculous price for a faulty product.

What's the point of a 10 year battery if the detector goes goofy after a year?

CGrant - 2 years ago
When we bought our house, the seller had added these all over to pass the fire dept. sales inspection. Just over a year in, and we have 2 that we had to replace as they started alarming and wouldn't stop, and a third that has false alarmed a few times and probably will go the same way. Shame, they otherwise tick all the boxes: both CO and photoelectric detection (ionization is usually the false alarm king), slim profile, 10 year battery... but if the detector won't last 10 years, what's the point?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This detector is such an important necessity for all homes. I love that it detects both smoke and carbon monoxide. I can now free up two outlets that my clunky carbon monoxide detector was previously occupying. The long battery life is so beneficial and u dont have to worry about it for a good while. I do like that it doesn't look bulky or look out of place where I have it. The sleek design is quite modern. The entire process of setting the detector us was so easy and hassle-free. I plan on purchasing one for my grandparent's home. I would definitely recommend this detector!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a good combination of smoke and carbon monoxide detection. Thin profile is less obtrusive from an aesthetic standpoint. This detector comes with internal battery so there is no need to install or replace batteries. Just know that when the battery dies it's done. It says it should last 10 years- I am many many years away from that so I can't vouch for battery life. There is a deactivate button so don't touch that as it will cause it to be un-usable. Comes with 2 screws and 2 plastic anchors.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was frying some bacon as the package arrived to my door so without planning it I got to test the First Alert PRC710 Slim Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector with Photelectric Sensor right away. The good news is that it works. The detector has a slim built and is easy to install. It is replacing my old kitchen smoke detector and add the carbon monoxide detection to the game. It makes me feel good that it provides the safety we need. No test for Carbon Monoxide was done and hopefully that will never be the case.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Replaced an old Carbon Monoxide Detector and a Smoke detector with this all in one unit. Installation was easy and it's much less noticeable compared to the old bulky units it replaced. Testing the alarm is super loud. Like push the button and run away loud. What I love about this detector is that the battery lasts 10 years. It's recommended by professionals that you replace the detectors every 10 years, so the 10 year battery life makes this device a no-brainer. You turn it on and you hang it with the included materials. It's really that easy to get protection and safety for your family. Especially since it can detect smoldering material and lets you know sooner than a regular detector.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We love our First Alert PRC710 Slim Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector with Photelectric Sensor. It is a sleek design. It is super easy to setup and install. Tested it and the alarm is nice and loud. Love that it has the photelectric sensor, which is supposed to be able to detect smoldering. Love that it has a ten year battery. This is my first, ever, carbon monoxide detector and I trust it to protect my family. First Alert makes great products and this is no exception. I highly recommend it and will definitely purchase again.

Great smoke & carbon monoxide detector

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the best dual purpose smoke and carbon monoxide detector. It has a slim sleek design and its very light. It looks good on my wall. It's not like other ones that are large and look horrible on your wall. I really like that this detector comes with a built in 10 year battery. The detector will chirp to let you know its time for a new one. No more checking and changing batteries. My husband hung this on our wall and it only took seconds. Install was easy. This alarm is loud and I know it will alert everyone in my home. I feel safer in my home with this detector that is for smoke and carbon monoxide. Everyone needs both detectors in their homes. I highly recommend this detector. This brand makes quality products that are worth the price.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Replaced two ancient units (smoke and monoxide) in our RV with this single unit, smaller than either. Very easy to install, and much less noticeable. Tested alarm and it will raise the hair on your neck, for sure. What makes this a great CO detector is the fact that the battery lasts ten years. You turn the switch which starts the alarm working, then you can hang it up with double sided adhesive tape pretty much anywhere. And then you're done. It has a loud alarm if it detects CO which is what happens in a fire. For the price, this is a great product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you are looking for a Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector, you should get the First Alert Detector with a Photoelectric sensor. This detector comes with a 10 year battery, and is loud when going off to test it. I feel that my family and I will be more protected with this, as the Photoelectric Sensor can detect smoldering materials and it warns you sooner than a regular detector. Having the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector in one helps me feel more at peace, and is a great choice when it comes to my family being safe.

Smoke and CO Detector

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had lots of issues with the so called 10 year detectors only lasting a year or less. Will see how long this one lasts. Install was easy and the slim profile looks good. The overall concept is smart. I think we’re all tired of changing batteries in smoke alarms and with our battery technology it should work efficiently for many years. Adding the carbon monoxide detection makes sense. Nice to not have two different alarms around the room. There needs to be an easier way to reset, like a button or switch on the side.
