This is book four in the Security Hounds miniseries and can be read as a stand-alone. Each book features a different member of the Wolfe family and their hound. I was happy to get to know Kara on a deeper level and her dog Millie who is blind and has Phil as a guide dog to protect and keep her safe. It was interesting to read about how they work together especially while searching. Beau is an interesting character as he suffers an unusual disability and has let it isolate and control his life. As he navigates this and lets Kara in to help find his mother the suspense begins to unfold. I was torn as to who is behind the mayhem and exactly why until it was revealed. I kept flip flopping and I loved that it kept me guessing. A book of faith, family, suspense, and a touch of romance that I really enjoyed. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit/author. This installment in the series starts off with an explosive bang! From the chases, the water mishaps and being targeted by a killer this book is an edge of your seat thriller! This was an edge of your seat mystery/suspense right from the beginning. Beau, who has an injury that has caused him not to be able to recognize faces, is being run off the road and attacked. In coming back to town he also finds out his mother’s missing. Kara and her family’s search and rescue team try to help in locating Beau’s mother. Lots of obstacles stand in the way. Several possible suspects are mentioned but I was kept guessing until the very end. I loved the dogs and their training and loyalty. I enjoyed all the characters but the dogs were really special. If you like high energy suspense and a hard to solve mystery, you’ll love this one. I’ve read several Dana Mentink books and am always ready to read another. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review.

Oh my. Get ready for constant action. Somebody wants to kill Kara, Beau, and his mother. They’ll even take out the K-9s if possible. But why? And who? I found Beau’s brain injury result very interesting. I had never heard of not being able to recognize faces, or prosopagnosia. The ways he worked around that were things I wouldn’t think of. Following the Clues also included scent dogs; one who is blind and one who is her helper. So unique! Author Dana Mentink really made this story interesting with unusual things, great characters, and well described mountains, caves, and rivers. If you like edge of the seat, dangerous stories then I highly recommend Following the Clues. (And of course we can’t forget a sweet romance.) Following the Clues by Dana Mentink is an intriguing tale. I enjoyed getting to know Kara and Beau. I felt for Beau who has prosopagnosia (also known as face blindness). I cannot imagine not being able to recognize your spouse, children, or your parents. I love Kara’s dogs. I like how Phill and Millie work as a team (sweet Millie can track, but she cannot see). I loved all the action that kept things lively. You did not know what was going to happen next. The mystery could have been more challenging. I’m glad we got to catch up with the other members of the Security Hounds Investigations (aka Kara’s family). Following the Clues is the fourth book in the Security Hounds Investigations series. While Following the Clues can be read as a standalone, I believe it is best to read the series in order (get to know the characters, the dogs, and what Security Hounds does). I am looking forward to Chase’s (and Tank’s) story. Following the Clues is a bustling book with a missing mom, a friend with face blindness, paintball pot shots, a dangerous search, sliding rocks, a protective pooch, and sniffing out the solution.

Once again this author has introduced us to K-9s that you will absolutely love. Millie is almost blind, but still can track better than most. Phil is her K-9 companion and guide. Kara Wolfe, of Security Hounds Investigations, handles this formidable team of K-9s. When a long time friend asks for help to find his missing mother, she and the rest of the team are on the job. Only one small problem, Beau suffers from prosopagnosia, a little known disability which leaves him unable to recognize faces - of anyone, not even his mother. With plenty of danger the search goes on. Will she be found alive and will the searchers survive the various attacks and sabotage? You’ll have to read this incredible story to find out.
