A: Generally, no. Dog food and cat food aren’t interchangeable. Cats, especially, need the amino acid taurine, which isn’t always present in sufficient quantities in dog food. It’s best to feed your cat a cat-specific food.

Q: Does anyone else bag smells? Like after a couple days of opening it starts smelling bad?

A: No, but the smell is a bit stronger after a week. I didn't realize this was a 7 day expiration (I didn't read the bag until 6 days later). The bag lasted 10 days for us but I won't do that again. It does have a strong smell but it's a normal smell.

A: Yes. I have two small dogs and they cannot finish a bag in one week. I portion half of the bag and freeze it. The color of the food may change when frozen but it does not affect the product.

It’s expensive & the bags the food comes in are horrible. You will either need to transfer to a ziplock, or store in an airtight container. Because of the price, I tried switching my dog back to kibble & within 2-mths she had gained almost 10-lbs! So my dog is a Freshpet dog. She loves it & I can tell just by looking at her poop that it agrees with her stomach better.

It lasted fresh for 2 days. The expiration date was a month away and my refrigerator was very cold and yet I couldn’t finished the bag because it just went bad after 2 days. I had same problem with smaller bags so i think it’s the problem with Freshpet

My dog got this as a substitute which we did not pick but decided to try anyway. I added it to her everyday food that she loves n she tasted it n smelled it. She refused to eat her food for two days after that. So I wasted my money n fed her what I always do homestyle by freshpet. Gotta be something in it that horrible to not eat for two days.

Started our dog on this food about 18 months ago. Our dog loves it…when it’s not rancid. But at least 4 of the times I bought this (~$25!!) bag of food, it had already turned / did turn within a day of opening despite that it had not yet expired (the food has an awful vinegar-like smell when it turns). When I complained to FreshPet they attempted to do right by me by emailing me a coupon / voucher for a free bag, but our local Target does not accept these coupons / vouchers! After throwing away nearly $100.00 worth of food, I’m done with FreshPet. Going to switch to JustFoodForDogs.

Please do your research before buying this food . I purchased this food for my dog for a year and a half , now he has bad skin issues . 2 of my friends pets stopped eating the food as well.. we looked into it and many people have had issues . My dog would also throw up often . We switched food after going to the vet and he’s doing better now .

Bloated Un-opened Not expired bag!

We’ve been using this food for over a year now and the past few months some unopened 5.5 lb bags get bloated in our fridge. To the point of almost bursting! Does anyone else have this problem with non expired unopened large bags? I ended up throwing 2 away because I was afraid to feed our dog the food from these bags. The other 2 I bought and was feeding (one at a time) did not bloat. This concerns me and wondering if there is some preservative inside that bloats unopened bags after a few weeks in your fridge?

So overall I haven’t had any issues with freshpet but the last time I got a bag it seemed to spoil way sooner than it should have. I noticed probably by day 4 it smelled very ripe. I’ve bought this bag 5-6 other times before and never had this issue so maybe I didn’t close it all the way but that would be my only criticism. So please make sure you seal it well or else it could ruin your open bag. Aside from that my dog loves this food and has no issues going to the bathroom. He used to get a lot of diarrhea and now no more bowel issues!!

All four dogs love this and always get excited when I open the fridge door. My great Pyrenees is EXTREMELY picky and now will eat his food instead waiting until he's starving to eat food with the other dogs. I use it as a topper to their kibble as I can't afford to feed all four dogs this food, a bag wouldn't last a day ha, but mix in about a 1/4 cup with his kibble and he eats it and wants more! So glad to find fresh pet treats and food. I keep extra in my freezer and buy in bulk!

I love this food for our 3 1/2 year old Boston Terrier. Her coat has never been this shiny and soft, her poops are solid and she’s not nearly as gassy (as Bostons can be). The food smells fantastic and you can switch it up with some of their other varieties. She absolutely LOVES her food, and kibble is a thing of the past for us. The only two things to be aware of are: 1. The bag lasts almost two weeks for my smaller dog, so if you have a smaller dog freeze half of it. The food does go bad after about a week after opening so freezing it keeps it fresh for her. 1. Beware that dogs need to keep their teeth clean and not having kibble can make it difficult for them to keep their teeth cleaner. Make sure your dog is getting their teeth cleaned in whatever way you see fit, otherwise their teeth can go bad quickly. I feed my dog a daily dental chew and she has chew toys meant to clean her teeth, as well as occasional toothbrushing. Seems to do the trick. Otherwise great product, and I’m so glad we found this for our pup!
