The repertoire files of the late Dr. Barbara Doscher, in which she noted her tips, observations on each particular piece, and notes on how to best teach it, comprise a unique trove of wisdom unmatched by any other source. Laboriously transcribed and annotated by John Nix, one of Doscher's students, the notes are presented here as a companion volume to her best-selling text, The Functional Unity of the Singing Voice.Review Quotes
An important contribution to voice pedagogy...From Studio to Stage is an indispensable aid, especially to beginning teachers. It is an excellent resource for voice pedagogy classes and a useful addition to any studio's library.
Any singer, whether teacher or performer who has access to this treasure of a book will feel a debt of gratitude to its compiler, Dr. Barbara Doscher and her editor, John Nix. The years of experience and erudition that lie behind the selection of this anthology, together with its final presentation, are mind boggling...a superb book of reference which I covet.
Nix rightly asserts that pedagogical insights may be harvested from the "comments" portion of each entry, assisting vocal instructors in making repertoire choices for students of varying levels of vocal development...Recommended for inclusive music libraries and libraries supporting undergraduate vocal programs.
