Review Quotes
Selected for The Children's Book Council's February 2024 "Hot Off The Press" Reading List
"My children really enjoyed reading and spotting their way through this book.It is an adorable and relatable story for children of all ages. The illustrations are fantastic. I love how the cut outs appear to be one thing on a certain spread, then turns out to be something entirely different on the next; ie.: a striped ball to a seat cushion, or spilled red balls to tomatoes. The items to spot are nice. They are the perfect blend of ease and challenge, giving slightly older kids the opportunity to interact with the story." --Cherokee Crum, YA Books Central
"I loved the vibrancy of this book. The addition of seek and find games throughout the book is sure to keep a wide range of readers engaged. The view underground is especially interesting. There are so many animals to discover and get to know!" --Lori Peters, NetGalley-Librarian
"This is a gorgeous, colourfully illustrated children's book, which I really loved reading! Bella and Sam learn how to grow fruits and vegetables and they have a great time learning about gardening. This is a really beautiful book, which all children will love and find interesting. Highly recommended!" --Catherine Craig, Bookseller
"This adorable read helps children understand the joys of growing your own food. A great book to get kids curious about gardening and help them be more open-minded about giving those vegetables a try at the dinner table." --All Done Monkey
About the Author
Joli Hannah, a children's book author and publisher, started working with international publishers in 2000 to create children's books, which over time she began writing herself. She is raising three children in a charming house in the countryside, and every night before bedtime, she reads or invents original stories for them. Joli works under a pseudonym, as she wishes her readers to perceive her through her stories and not through her image on social media. She loves life, people, and their stories, and was born and raised in an industrial city in Central Europe.
Malgorzata Detner is a Poland-based illustrator born in 1989 who has loved drawing since a young age, influenced by her mother's paintings. She followed a career in costume design, focusing on Victorian dresses, but returned to traditional painting and digital illustration after her daughter's birth. She draws vibrantly colored, mysterious, fantastic worlds, animals, and creatures influenced by old animation, and she incorporates hand-painted textures in her digital art and loves creating illustrations that remind her of childhood memories. In her free time, she makes needle-felt toys and watches her favorite movies, including Studio Ghibli's Totoro. She lives with her family and pets in Warsaw.
