I bought this for my daughter and the first thing I noticed is that it doesn't close all the way. When my daughter is carrying it the flap keeps opening and the camera lens gets bumped and it extends out, making it easy to damage. It's not easy to find a case that fits and protects the Instax Mini 8. This seemed like the best (and possibly only option) outside of a "real" camera case.
