Description
Our popular Crop Cage is stronger and bigger than ever! We extended it to 12', made the steel poles stronger, added crossbars for extra stability, and improved the connectors. Unlike other crop cages on the market, this has zippered doors and is tall enough for you to walk right inside to tend and harvest. It's lightweight and easy to assemble, and simple to take down and store at the end of the season. The steel tube construction allows you to easily move the assembled cage too, which is great for protecting vulnerable vegetable plants. Use Extra Tall Earth Staples, sold separately, to anchor the cage in windy areas. Note: When installing the cage, be sure that all tubes are fully seated into the connectors. If the tubes are not fully seated, the netting cover will be overly tight, may not reach all the way to the ground, and could create access points for birds and critters.

Great idea but improvement needed

I have used two of these cages for several years now, and while they do keep critters (mostly squirrels) away from my tomatoes, it is at a greater cost than necessary, learned the hard way: ground staples are required every two inches or so that then need to be removed from the zippered areas every time you enter the cage. What would work far better (because the squirrels will find every place you've cheated on the two inch rule) is to have the netting extend six inches or so beyond the bottom, which could then be weighed down with long pieces of wood, making the process of entering and leaving much simpler and still ensuring that nothing will enter through the bottom. Hope GSC tests this; i use it in my strawberry bed with your bird netting and it works superbly.
I am buying the product but smaller size again!

I have used this product for one season in northern Michigan. It did exactly as described. We took the netting down this winter and left the poles up. Will put the netting back up this spring.

The idea is great but the squirrels figured out they could get in after one year. I started wrapping my frame in chicken wire and am going to finish the job this fall. I use it around my GS raised bed (2x8) . They have a cover made with chicken wire for my smaller raised bed but not the big one. I like the space this item leaves to allow me to enter and move around.
Looks great!

I think the only improvement that could be made, would be to make it a little wider.

I was hopeful this would be the solution to keeping catbirds out of my blueberry bushes this year, but looks like I'm back to where I started. This cage started out great and I was really satisfied with my purchase. It was easy to assemble and I was able to protect my blueberry harvest for the month of June. I loved that birds would not get caught in the netting unlike previous solutions I had installed in the past. The first week of July I started to notice that birds kept entering the cage from an unknown location and I placed garden staples all along the bottom cross-bars into the soil as a preventative measure. I kept finding more and more birds inside of the cage and that's when I noticed a hole in the netting. I patched the hole with some string, but days later a new hole would appear in a separate section of netting. Needless to say I have had to patch several holes, but the animals keep making new ones. I've lost an entire harvest of blueberries from one of the bushes and have been fighting a losing battle to a net.

The product needs to have a heavier base.
Heartbroken that I can't fully recommend this.

Loved this Year 1. Was the first time I had the berries to myself! Year 2 the plastic connectors split on most joints (I wrapped each one with reinforced pipe tape) and the birds & squirrels figured out that they could just chew through the netting. I'm constantly (daily) repairing holes as I sadly look for a new kind of cage solution. [Lifted on to cinder blocks as the bodies grew & attached bird netting to the bottom/staked in to the ground. Critters don't chew through the bottom, they climb or fly on to the walls & ceiling and chew through there.

Held up well. Put up early in the season, take it down when berries gone. Stored clean and dry. Drawback it the ties at bottom. Add a lot of mulch or barrier because there are gaps in the bottom.
It's a fine product but the net is problematic

Even though we cared for the net as instructed, it still ripped in so many places after 2 seasons that it needs replacing, however I couldn't seem to find a way to just order a new net, not the whole thing.

I previously rated this 1 star but Gardener's Supply is sending me a replacement as they have a lifetime warranty on items. I most likely got a defective crop cage.

This is the 3rd year I set up the cage for my blueberries. The entire top and 2 sides came apart and I spent the entire afternoon sewing the netting together to keep my blueberries safe from birds. One side is reinforced but the side that came apart is not. Looks like a defect to me. Lucky for me I noticed the problem before the birds did! I have 2 old cages size 4' x 4' and they are 12 years old and still good (never came apart).

The frame has held up well. The netting however has not. I had large holes from animals near the bottom shortly after the berries appeared. One of the zippers broke first season.

a massive fail...did not stand up to the winter snow fall. The tubes bent as snow fell even though i had reinforced the corners with Tposts I would have taken it down if there was a note about stability

The instructions included with the product recommend to remove the Net Cover before expected snow or ice accumulation. The Net Cover is not designed for use in winter conditions.
• When not in use, dry all parts thoroughly, disassemble and store under cover

This seemed to work ok but something I think squirrels ate holes through the netting. Hence we found birds inside and they cleaned out the berry bushes. Such a disappointment.

I looked into having a cage built to protect my blueberries from the very hungry birds. Way too expensive. This cage works so well, until winter snows required me to remove the netting which buckles under the weight, hence 3 season protection. Full disclosure, this is the second one I bought as I learned about the full meaning of 3 season last year. Perhaps I will try to support the ceiling of the netting somehow sthis winter. If anyone has ideas, please pass on.

I thought I had the solution to animals eating my garden, but something (rabbit, chipmunk?) chewed holes in the netting, I saw birds, rabbits, and chipmunks inside. My old chicken wire fence did a better job deterring wildlife. I have never had my entire green bean and cucumber plants eaten before. One plus- it kept the deer out.

Not as terrific as I thought

I initially thought this product terrific as per my review a month ago. Then three tomatoes had bite marks and started disappearing. Turns out I have three holes in the netting. Have added boards, stone, and bricks in an effort to keep them out. I am losing the war. I am going to either add heavy duty screening to the bottom or cut acrylic to the length of each side and 10-12 inches high and see if that works. I'm disappointed. Thought this was a real winner.

This product is terrific. First time in years I have ripe tomatoes with no one eating them before I get the first bite. Ties to frame would be better if made of Velcro and slightly longer. Love it!
