Q: Is the charging port on the forerunner as horrible as other models?

submitted by Paul M - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi, thanks for reaching out about Garmin Forerunner 55 GPS Running Smartwatch. The Garmin Forerunner 55 uses the exact same 4-pin "plug-style" charging port found on nearly all modern Garmin watches (Fenix 5/6/7, Forerunner 245/255/945/955, etc.). If you hated this port on a previous model, you likely won't find it "better" here, as the hardware design hasn't changed. However, most "horrible" experiences with this port are caused by two specific issues that are easily fixed. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

Not as good as I'd hoped

Was hoping that the Garmin 55 would be improved accuracy over my old 225 but it seems to be inconsistant with itself (and previous watches) and dispite having a Track setting (which the 225 didn't) it seems to be as inaccurate or worse in tracking distance. Also the numbers on the watch face are more difficult to read, thinner fonts and the use of color for the right side of the Daytime or stopwatch time makes those digits hard to read. Making the watch smaller didn't make it better. I would be happier with the same size as the 225 or 620 and have easier to read numbers. It may have more features but they aren't things that I need on a run to run basis. If my 225 would sync to the computer like it used to, I would keep using it until it died.

To a degree I am okay with it. It has no touch screen like my old Garmin, but it does track my steps.

    Doesn’t work for long

I got this watch for my birthday and everything was working fine but all of a sudden the heart rate and body battery do not work no matter what I’ve tried. Ive tried emailing them but never got a response. The main reason I got this watch was for heart rate so I’m very dissatisfied.

    Needs improvement.

I purchased the Forerunner 55 after my Forerunner 45 was showing signs of needing to be replaced. After I was able to delete the training segment on the watch, I am happier with the watch. When I chose running as the activity, I didn't like the countdown and not being able to see the distance, elapsed time and pace as I was running and walking. I couldn't find anything in the manual to tell how to get rid of the training segment. I finally figured out myself.

Durable, functional, and easy to use

I have had this watch for almost 5 years. It's extremely easy to use, durable, and functional. GPS is extremely accurate and it still holds a charge for a couple of days depending on my activity levels. The 4 out of 5 stars is due to the fact that I have to manually add all of the data for rowing. Also, there is no way to add exercises to a manual addition of strength moves, and the list is limited. I would give it an actual 4-1/2 stars out of 5. Overall, it's a great watch for the money.

Piece of crap. I do not recommend.

This dumb watch has caused problems from day one. The main issue is trying to charge it. The watch has a really weak connection point, so it sometimes takes DAYS to charge it. And even then, you have to keep checking it because the charger easily pops back off. I wish I would have saved my money, and I do not recommend it.

    An older Forerunner 55 user.

I've had a Forerunner 55 for a long time. The original one I had recently needed charging twice a week or so. Garmin sold me a reconditioned one to replace it. I don't recall why I bought the 1st one, but I recently depend on mine to monitor my heart rate because I have started having asymptomatic arrhythmia. I am nearly 80 years old. Being able to check on my heart rate at a glance is REALLY useful to me.

Easy to use! But just one problem!

I bought this and I was really excited overall this watch has been great!!! My one regret is that it can't connect to my lap top! And my phone is a Samsung! What would make it so much easier to use is if y'all made the Garmin Connect app available to use on a Laptop, chrome book, computer, and etc.

    Too complex for a Boomer

I actually prefer my old Forerunner, which seemed much ssimpler. Perhaps if Garmin supplied initial instructions that were written in non-geek speak, I'd have caught on to this one more quickly. Eventually I did find the controls for the only 2 things I need -- the time, and how many steps I have in the bank. But this watch (and for all I know, all of them)has so many combinations and permutations: if you start pressing the buttons you can get hopelessly lost and there doesn't seem to be any one button that will take you back to "home" or the like, where you can start over.Mywatch came with an odd version of the time, but I managed to customize the face to a more ordinary digital print.
