Use the tips & visuals in this guide to make taking your child's body measurements easy-peasy.

Dont have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Height

    Have your child stand in front of the fridge.Mark the top of the head with a magnet. Measure a straight line from floor to magnet.

  • Chest

    Have your child make airplane arms. Wrap tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping it level & snug.

  • Waist

    With your child bending to one side, measure the point where the waist flexes naturally. Keep the tape level & comfortably loose.

  • Hip

    Have your child stand like a tall tree with feet together. Measure a level line around the fullest part of the hips & seat.

  • Inseam

    Take a pair of pants that fit your child well. Measure along the seam from crotch to leg opening.

    Better than expected

    Why is it so hard to find overalls anymore for girls? I love that they are dark wash and large enough at the bottom for boots. Came in a few days by mail. Material is medium thickness. Fine for spring and fall but wouldn't be thick enough for farm work or winter like Carhartts, which is perfect for us. She needed them for a farm themed music concert. Perfect fit! Slightly long by maybe an inch but I prefer that because they will be a good length with boots. Relaxed fit. Most others we found were too high at the waist and looked weird. Ordered a size small which is her true to size in length. Her waist is small and fits into 5t still but is normally shorter than her peers at her age (6.5yo).

    unfortunately, I had to request a refund on this item. I wanted a size 10 for my granddaughter, but the description only showed sm/med/large. I checked the size chart and thought a 10 would be a medium. it was a size 8. Item was not eligible for a return, but my money was refunded. so I ordered a large. I was very much impressed that Target suggested I donate the first item, rather than returning it. Thank you Target! I will be donating.

    Adorable, and not stiff - which is great for my 9 year old who hates typical jeans material. But one issue we have is that the buttons on the sides are snaps instead of regular buttons so they come undone at the slightest move. They fit well, so going up isn’t really the best option. If they had regular buttons instead of snaps they’d be 5 stars!
