God So Close - by Becky Thompson (Paperback)

It took some time to read "God So Close," longer than I intended, because I felt that if this book indeed was what it claimed to be -- a book about God's desire to be intimately known by humanity -- it deserved to be read slowly so that its message could be fully digested. After reading it, I felt compelled to share it with everyone around me because, if what I read is true, everyone ought to know. I wanted to buy a copy for my brother, the postman, the checkout clerk at the grocery store...everyone. Please read this book. Don't let the language geared toward a female audience turn you away. This book is for you, whoever you are, wherever you are, whether you believe in God or not. This book is for you.

Amazing! Becky has a way in all of her books to make you feel like she is talking to you as a friend. The Holy Spirit has always been a little more of a struggle for me as growing up we were not taught a lot about him. This book will show you the ways that the Holy Spirit will show up and lead you. Everyone has different ways that they hear God and the more you are able to learn how God and the Holy Spirit talk the easier it will be to hear them. Becky has always done an amazing job at letting God work through her on this book and all of her other books. This book will bring you closer and into a deeper relationship with God. You will not be disappointed with this book. I feel I will be rereading it many times and will learn new things every time I read it.

It is difficult to find a book about the Holy Spirit that does not speak over the average layman's head or is not woo-woo in approach or manner. God So Close is easy to read without undermining the subject. Becky skillfully intertwines personal stories with scriptural authority concerning the Holy Spirit. She uses her own experiences in courageously following the Spirit and marries those with scriptural references to inform and lead the reader into a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit. This book is bolder than Becky's previous installments in which she speaks to mothers. Becky has a way of writing that is conversational, as if you are sitting across from her with a mug of coffee, and because of that, though the subject of God So Close is weighty and complicated, it reads quite easily.

Becky takes us in a journey of understanding the Holy Spirit like never before! If you have loved all of her other books like me, you have to read this one too. Mixed in with wonderful stories and easy to relate to Becky talks, are beautiful truths about how and where the Holy Spirit wants to meet us and work in and through our lives. Must read!

Another good read from Becky Thompson! I enjoyed the sharing of how the Holy Spirit worked in believers in the Bible and how He is still at work today. As a Christian, we often don’t utilize the power of the Holy Spirit within our lives as God has intended, often because we’re not listening or seeking Him.

Becky Thompson has done it again! God So Close will definitely deepen your understanding of your relationship with God. It’s like Becky was writing the thoughts in my own head as I was reading this book. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to strengthen their relationship with Christ! Becky is such an inspiration to me in her writings and how she boldly shares her faith and what is on her heart.

I have to read all of Becky’s books and this one does not disappoint! The way the author writes is like your sitting down for tea or coffee with a friend. And every book seems to speak right to the heart. Becky does a deep dive into who the Holy Spirit is and how to listen for HIm in your day to day life. I’d highly recommend this book.

As someone who has grown up in the church and has been a Christ follower since a young age, I honestly tend to avoid “Christian books”. Most leave me feeling like I am a horrible person or I try to read it and become ridiculously bored. I know the Holy Spirit is important so when I heard Becky Thompson was writing a book about the Holy Spirit, I was THRILLED! I have followed Becky Thompson for years, and have read all of her other books, so I knew this book would be different. I knew that I would feel refreshed and validated, even if there would be some tough love and hard truths in her writing. Her writing makes me feel like I am sitting down with a friend for coffee, not lining up for a lecture. God So Close is a book everyone needs to read. Not only does Becky Thompson pour out her heart on the page, she comes alongside you as you find the truth about WHO the Holy Spirit is and HOW that impacts your life. Also, truth about God’s presence and how that impacts us and those around us is also given. The pages are filled with verse references and personal stories. Each chapter ends in a prayer that is heartfelt and genuine. There are also reflection questions that let you dig deeper! As someone who has sat through many a sermon on the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts, I learned so much and feel even more connected to God and the Holy Spirit than I have in a long time. This is a must read for all! I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Becky did it again! I couldn’t put this book down! I felt like Becky was sitting in the room with me as I read this, and that she knew everything about me. She is a very relatable author! I’ll forever keep this book on my shelf and continue to refer to it and read it many times.

In a world full of heartache & distractions, it's so easy to feel discouraged & alone. But God! The author guides you in hearing straight from God & discovering just how close He really is! He is real, He is alive, & He is speaking to us. We only have to lean in & tune into His voice.

We are living in scary times. Pandemics, mass shootings, and new wars are scary, to put it mildly. It can be easy to get sucked into the worldly chaos and to feel so very lost and afraid. The release of this book could not be more timely, as our world needs to feel and understand God’s closeness now, perhaps more than ever. Becky has a writing style that makes you feel like you are in a conversation with a close friend. This brings the reader in and makes it so easy to understand and engage in the words God wrote through her. This subject matter often feels so foreign, but Becky breaks it down in a way that is sure to help the reader better understand the Holy Spirit and God’s incredible closeness. If you are overwhelmed in this world of fear, or yearning to feel God’s closeness, this book is an absolute must read!!

This book is a beautiful reminder of how much God loves us and how He is always with us. He wants to speak to us daily. I highly recommend this book to any woman who wants a deeper walk with God and wants to learn how to slow down and listen for the Holy Spirit every day. Most of us know that we are never alone and God wants a relationship with us. But Becky Thompson explains this in a way that grabs my attention and makes me realize how important my walk with God should be every day. Thank you, Becky! I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Definitely a must-read! Regardless where you are at in your faith journey - whether you're a new believer, been following him for years, or are just asking questions about Who God is...this book will pull you in closer to God's heart, and give you a new perspective. I have read all of Becky's books, and have found delight or healing in all of them in different ways. But this one...this one will strengthen your relationship with God and understand his heart in a NEW way. I have followed the Lord my whole life, and feel renewed and excited for all there is still to learn. Thank you for this beautiful book Becky!

An insightful and easy read for anyone that wants to have a closer relationship with God and/or wants to understand more about the Holy Spirit and the Trinity. I've read several of Becky Thompson's books and this one is by far my favorite. Not only does it dig deeper into how God can make a personal impact on your life, but it explains that that impact is for EVERYONE. Often I find that Christian theology books fall into 1 of 2 camps: either geared toward new believers or very academic. I'm happy to say this falls into both. It's written clearly enough for anyone (no matter their background) to understand and find meaning. "God So Close" also digs into the topic enough that Bible nerds like me feel fed. I highly recommend this book!!!

Have you ever found yourself feeling like you’re missing something? Wondering if God speaks to you like He does to others? Thinking that maybe something is wrong because you just don’t get it when people talk about the depth of their relationship with the Holy Spirit? Craving more, but not knowing how? This is just what you need. I’m a pastor’s wife. I grew up going to church, soaking in all I could learn and I even went to a Christian university. I’ve known these things Becky wrote about in God So Close. I know the Holy Spirit, but when people in church have come to me with a question about Him, I wasn’t NEARLY as clear and easy to understand as Becky is, ha! I’m SO EXCITED to have something I trust is biblically sound that I can confidently give or tell people about- something they can easily dive into! I want ALL my friends to have this book! From the very first chapters, I became so excited about what God is going to do through this book! There’s something so different about truly KNOWING He’s this close to us. Something so powerful in the way it changes lives! HE changes lives through His Holy Spirit and Becky makes it all so understandable with scripture woven in each page as she shares her own experiences. I can’t wait to see what God will do through God So Close- I know it will be amazing!

This new book by Becky Thompson is a lot different than her previous books, but not in a bad way! Her conversational writing style is still the same, but this book goes much deeper theologically than the ones that came before--also, this one has a much broader audience; I'm happy I can recommend it to any Christian friends, not just moms as was the case with her previous books. This book focuses on the Holy Spirit and who he is a part of the trinity of God. Her previous book, Peace, delved a little bit into the truth of seeing the Holy Spirit as equally as powerful and equally God as we see Jesus and God the Father, so I was excited to learn that she was writing an entire book around this subject, because I think it is an important one. One of the things I liked most about the book was that BT backs up every point she's making with scripture, and not just one scripture reference. She uses multiple scriptures throughout each chapter and for each point she's making. I'll be honest, a couple of the chapters were work for me as a lifelong Southern Baptist, but there were so many times I highlighted sections while reading through this book because there were so many good truths that I wanted to be able to go back to. It's a worthwhile and timely read.

Becky Thompson has done it again. The way she relates to women and the way the Holy Spirit uses her AGAIN to touch our lives is just amazing. This is a book I will read over and over and OVER again. It will deepen your faith, it will touch your heart, and it will bring you so much closer to the Holy Spirit. Thank you Becky Thompson for letting God use you!!!!

With each book that Becky writes I feel closer and closer to Jesus through her writing!! I have always been intrigued by the idea of the Holy Spirit so when I saw she was dedicating a whole book helping us understand and experience Him in our lives I knew I had to read it! I love all of her examples of feeling lead by the Spirit in her life and trusting in the quiet whisper of His voice and seeing the joy that comes when we follow Him. I especially love the example she gave of feeling prompted to give the car rental woman the $400 cash they had and at the same moment her husband felt the same calling!! Wow!! I have told so many of my friends about Becky over the years (I recommend all of her books!!) and this book was no exception!! I already have a couple friends who have purchased it and I know their lives will be changed from it!

Becky Thompson has become one of my favorite Christian authors, I started following her on Facebook with her Midnight Mom Devotional. She has a way of making you feel like you are sitting down with a friend while reading her books. This book is for anyone who desires a deeper connection with God and the Holy Spirit. The timing of this book couldn’t be more perfect, “It’s peace that comes from the presence of God even in the middle of everything being far from okay.” I appreciate that Becky doesn’t ever assume that the reader knows every Bible story or verse and instead she takes the time to explain it all, you never feel like “oh I should have known that.” This is a must read, especially if you’ve ever wondered why God isn’t talking to you or if you’ve felt alone. It’s the reminder that I needed, to slow down and listen and recognize that the Holy Spirit lives within us!

Wow! Having grown up a Christian I’m blown away by how much I’ve learned about the Holy Spirit through this book! It was eye opening and more importantly heart stirring to craving the Spirit of God and how He is always near! I have always loved how Becky writes and makes it feel like what she writes was written just for me and this book is no different! It’s definitely my new favorite. It’s so easy to understand, as I was reading I kept thinking how I want to read this to my kids, husband, and all the girlfriends I want to gift the book to! It’s just SOOO good!!! I also love the prayers she includes and want to make them a part of my everyday prayers! This book is a must read!!
