The wireless doorbell does not have a chime feature. I do not know if anyone is at the door, due to it being just a little pop up on my phone. I get 30 of those a day.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 3 months ago
Hi there, thanks for sharing your feedback and concerns about the Nest Doorbell (battery). A chime is not included with a purchase of Nest doorbells, but when a visitor presses your Nest Doorbell (battery), you can hear an audible alert if you have compatible smart speakers or displays, like Nest Audio or Nest Hub. You can connect a Google speaker or display and set up visitor announcements if you want to get notified when someone rings your doorbell when you’re home. You'll only get visitor announcements on your speakers and displays if they are set up in the same home as your doorbell in the Home app. Or if you choose the optional hard-wired installation, it will work with an existing doorbell chime if you have one. If you need help around the features and functionality of the Nest doorbell, please feel free to contact us at the Google Nest Help page.

Biggest waste of money. App is Google Home Not NEST, like my other NEST cameras !! Unit is plugged in at all times with power supply purchased FROM GOOGLE. Yet battery dies and unit stops recording all the time ! Too hot, too cold… same story unit completely shuts down. Garbage ! Unbelievable a company like google can’t build a functioning wireless doorbell, it seems like every other company can & has.

I’ve had this for about seven months. I took it off to charge (which you have to do every few weeks) and now it won’t latch back on. I’ve tried several times and I can’t get it to work anymore. I did call Target customer service and they had to transfer me. The girl I spoke with was very helpful and out in a request with the manufacturer. Waiting to see what they say.

Tiffany W - 4 months ago, Verified purchaser
My entire house is now filled with Google items: doorbell, 2 hubs, mesh wifi etc. I absolutely loved the doorbell until it started to say the battery was low while being plugged into a power source for the bell. I ended up having to dismount the bell and charge inside before I could hook it back up to the bell and it recognize the battery didn't need to be charged in the first place due to being plugged in. I'm not sure if this particular bell is faulty or not but it's been increasingly difficult to monitor my front door. in the past 2 months I've had to do this twice. Not sure if I should exchange for another one or try something new altogether. At this point I'm over it. I just want a working doorbell especially considering how much I paid for it.

Hi Tiffany W, thanks for investing high on Google Nest devices, and for sharing your feedback on Nest Doorbell (battery). We’re sorry to learn that you came across this power issue while your doorbell is plugged into a power source for the bell. It is important to make sure that the doorbell is receiving enough power, with wires delivering 8 - 24 V AC, and at least 10 VA, 50/60Hz. If you'd like, we'd be happy to guide you with structured troubleshooting procedures and learn how we can provide a better experience for you. Great video, no chime without google speakers

4 out of 5 stars
KS - 4 months ago
The video quality and accuracy in picking up events is definitely better than the Ring doorbell I had before. One star taken away because this doorbell alone does not ; phone notifications only. I only had Alexa devices and had to buy a google nest hub (or mini, alternatively) in order to heat the chime in my house like you’d expect from a doorbell. If you don’t have any google speakers, please know you’ll need to buy some in order to hear any rings, or keep your phone off silent.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 4 months ago
Hi KS, thanks for giving us a review about the Nest Doorbell (battery), and we’re sorry to learn that you had bought another Google Nest Hub to have a chime in your house. A chime is not included with a purchase of Nest doorbells, but when a visitor presses your Nest Doorbell (battery), you can hear an audible alert if you have compatible smart speakers or displays, like Nest Audio or Nest Hub. Also, Google offers a Smart Home skill for integrating your Nest devices with Amazon's Alexa home control. Alexa can announce when someone presses the doorbell or when the doorbell detects motion or events. Visit the Google Nest Help Center to learn about how to control the Nest devices with Amazon Alexa. For concerns or questions that need our support, please feel free to find us anytime at Google Nest Help page and we’d be more than happy to help.

the battery life is absolutely horrible, I charged my doorbell at night and it says 2 weeks remaining after fully charged. the door bell only lasted 4 days. really disappointed in the battery life, but aside from that the camera is fantastic if you're used to Google products
1 reply from Nest Support team - 4 months ago
Hi Omar, thanks for providing us your feedback on Nest Doorbell (battery), and we’re sorry to learn of your disappointment with its battery life. Your camera could be detecting a lot of activities, as the battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera/doorbell settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your doorbell by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. If you have to charge the battery more often than you should, you may consider connecting your doorbell to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter to keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest doorbell is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use. We can help you check for other reasons why the battery only lasts for four days, and we encourage you to visit us whenever you have time for troubleshooting guidance, at the Google Nest Help page.

1 reply from Nest Support team - 7 months ago
Hi Dave, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the Nest Doorbell’s battery didn’t meet your expectations. Nest Doorbell (battery) is designed for the outdoors with the temperature range of –4°F to 104°F. Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios: - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day) - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day) - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day) If you’re willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn’t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your Nest Cam (Battery) and understand what may be causing it. You can reach out to our support team anytime by visiting the Google Support page.

Battery life no where close to advertised, but works well with Minis!

3 out of 5 stars
trishinboots - 8 months ago, Verified purchaser
My husband and I purchased this doorbell because our apartment didn't come with one already installed. (Well, it did, but was from the prior tenants and was some crap bluetooth device that kept breaking.) We chose the Google doorbell because it would link to our Google Home Minis on the 1st and 2nd floors so we could "hear" the doorbell anywhere from inside, not just via notifications on our phones. Installing it took a bit of effort -- we watched YouTube videos about drilling into brick, which is the material we were trying to mount the doorbell into outside. For that, we also needed a masonry drillbit. Once we got the mount installed, setup was a breeze. I like the way the video in the Google Home setup walks you through it all step-by-step. That said, the battery life is pretty terrible. We live in the city (Philadelphia) and there are constantly people going by our door. We wanted to keep the area that would trigger recording large, but ultimately had to reduce it to just our immediate doorstep because we had to charge the device every other day with multiple "events" per hour. We also turned off sound recording because 1. we weren't sure of the legality of it in Pennsylvania (we think it's not legal unless you provide some sort of indication so a person can "consent" and the little provided sticker didn't seem enough to us), and 2. it also seemed to be a battery drain. After making those two changes, we're able to get 7-10 days out of a charge. This is drastically shorter than the "months" of battery life advertised. I think if you turn off the camera, maybe you'll get "months" of life, but what fun is it to pay this much money for a video doorbell and not use the video? How else will I know that my neighbor's dog is getting all of his walks in? Linking it to the Minis was easy as well. We get notifications on our phones any time there is an "event" regardless of whether anyone presses the button to ring the doorbell, and then we hear the chime via the Minis (it says, "ding! someone's at the [location of your doorbell in the Google Home app; "front door" for us]"). It's nice to have the phone notifications as back-up because not every delivery person rings the doorbell and so if I get a notification I can run out and grab something before it gets stolen by porch pirates. Overall, it's a good doorbell but if I owned my home, I'd have just had someone install the hardwired version. It sucks having to take this thing down for 3-4 hours each week to charge it.

Terrible Product - Cannot change alert tone

1 out of 5 stars
sja - 8 months ago
This is a terrible product. Unlike all other apps that I (or you) have on my phone, I am unable to change the alert tone in settings on my phone. Although I have an iphone it has the same problem on android phones. The only choice is to have the phone make sound or no sound when the doorbell rings or any person is spotted by the camera. The default sound (the only option) is a very quiet and quick ding dong sound. The sound is so quiet and so short that I cannot hear it if there is any other ambient noise and if my phone is not already out of my pocket. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY FOR A USELESS PRODUCT!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I don't have experience with smart doorbells but this is pretty neat. Instructions are super easy, you get a link to watch a video for step to step instructions. It comes with the whole setup to install on a wall. A metal plate has a 30-degree angle for better view. Mounting wasn't easy for me as I have a brick house that needed to be attached. It took me about 30 minutes to find the right tool to attach the metal plate. Love the clear view it's provided and turned automatically in night mode by itself ( see attached picture). It's doesn't actually ring a bell but sends me and my husband notifications on our phone. I can talk to people at the door and they can talk to me. All the cars and people coming in my driveway. Mind you we have many deers hanging out in our yard especially at night. So far not been a single notification of deers moving in my front yard from our smart doorbell which is pretty neat. It saves the recording and you can watch who came and what package is outside. It's doesn't seem to save more than a day worth of recording unless I am missing something. So far I am happy with the ring.

#1 Video Doorbell!

5 out of 5 stars
reesetisha - 8 months ago
originally posted on Google LLC
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted a video doorbell to show me in real-time who or what is at the front door. After some research I decided to get a Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) which uses a charging cable for the built-in rechargeable Li-Ion battery. This means there is no hassle wiring the doorbell. Along with the Nest Doorbell it comes with a charge cable, base plate, 20” wedge, wedge screws, spacers, release tool, wall screws and anchors, and wire connector. The wire connector is for those who have existing wiring to connect to the existing doorbell chime. In order to use the doorbell you must have a Google Account, Google Home App, WiFi Network, and a mobile device. Of course, it works with Hey Google. It was simple to attach the doorbell outside next to my front door. I receive notifications on my phone, Google Assistant speakers, and displays when someone rings the doorbell or leaves a package. The doorbell has a 2 way speaker and built-in microphone giving me the ability to talk to whomever is at the front door from anywhere with my phone. This doorbell shows video 24/7 with a view where you can see from the ground all the way up to someone’s head. Oh, it has great night vision. I can even go into the video history to watch something I missed. There were a few selling points that impressed me. First, this product uses 45% recycled plastic parts. Second, if someone removes my doorbell illegally Google Nest will replace it for free. Lastly, Google Nest provides exceptional security and privacy for my family. Also, It comes with a 1yr limited warranty. #NestDoorbell #VideoDoorbell #Reesetishas2cents #reesetisha @madebygoogle @google @reesetisha
