It’s unfortunate that the only review here says the Google Nest Mini does not sound better than the Google Home Mini. I almost let this stop me from paying a little more to see if I could get better sound quality, but I didn’t. I have a Google Home Mini and a Google Nest Mini and I immediately noticed improved sound with the nest (as do all tech reviewers who publish articles comparing them). I found the Home Mini To have a sort of “tinny” sound to it and to not sound great when raising the volume. The Nest Mini does not have this tinny sound and you can feel the beat more (better bass) and it’s much better when you raise the volume to higher levels than the Home. I’m glad I paid extra for the improved sound quality. So far, I’ve noticed no other substantial differences but I’ve only had the Nest Mini for a day :) I just had to immediately report that the sound is a huge improvement! I look forward to it’s ability to learn the commands I tend to use more often and respond to them faster due to this learning (not requiring it to access the cloud to determine its response) which is another addition made to the Nest that the Home does not have (learning and remembering for faster response time)!
Aside from differences, I love this device (and I love my Google Home Mini, just not for blasting music), it’s super helpful and super fun and I look forward to learning more things I can do with it! Currently I can turn my Smart TV on and off (And my newer tv that has an external chromecast, my much older tv with an external chromecast will not turn on and off through google, just like it won’t turn on when I start casting to it, as newer TVs do). I also have a smart plug from Gosund that I interact with through my google home mini that I’ve had no issues with whatsoever.
The Google Nest Mini has so far been a disappointment. This was supposed to be an improvement upon the Google Home Mini, but so far, it has been much worse. It doesn't pick up what I say 70% of the time. I have to constantly repeat myself and talk louder. These are issues I did not have with my Google Home Mini. It also has a hard time staying connected to the internet, which makes no sense because we have it in the same place we kept our Home Mini. On top of that, it also does not sound any better than the Home Mini. I'm not sure if we just got a faulty product, or if this is an issue with all of the Nest Minis, but I am not impressed.
