Having had a whole slate of Android devices over the years, I'd heard nothing but good things about the Pixel. I've always been a budget to midrange phone user and never understood why to shell out more than 300 bucks for a phone. Unlocked, used for two or three years and then resold, was the sweet spot for me. So when I saw the 6A pop up for 250 bucks plus 5 percent off with Redcard, I took the plunge. And boy do I love it. I use Mint mobile and have had no problems with that carrier. I turned 5G off entirely to maintain good battery life, and put in four fingerprint readings of my thumb, which helps to solve two major problems people have had with the phone: battery life and heat from bad modem, and finicky fingerprint unlock, respectively. The screen is vibrant and just the right size, though it took a day or two to adjust after coming from larger Oneplus devices, and the camera is everything it's cracked up to be. Comes with years of OS updates, and I easily updated to Android 14 beta, which has worked flawlessly and comes with a few assorted features like a new clean lockscreen. Processor is fantastic and the Geekbench scores attest to that as does daily activity. No, it doesn't have 10GB of RAM, but you don't need that with an optimized custom chip like in these Pixels. It does heat up a bit at times and I can tell that through a thick silicone case even. So that's not great. But it's a known problem and Android 14 is working on thermal and battery management. Overall, it's a fantastic buy if you're a tech savvy customer who likes Android phones in general and a good deal. I'm very pleased. Attached is a picture of the phone running on Android 14 with MrShieldz screen protector (bought elsewhere but applied perfectly).

Phone works fine. But if I wanted no headphone jack and front screen fingerprint scanner that only works a third of the time because it's behind a screen protector, I would've just shelled out for an iPhone.

I bought this phone because my previous, more powerful phone didn't work with the Razer Kishi V2. Sadly, this phone is only sufficient at playing games. From what I was told by a Pixel 6 user, that phone is also not very powerful. For the price, you can get a new, recent flagship phone from another company. The only good thing is that, because it's from Google, software updates will be more readily available.

it won't hold a charge within 20 mins of holding in your hand while using it starts heating up. not worth the money. you can find better phones with better cameras who hold charge and don't don't become personal heaters that could explode. it maybe pretty but as they say it's only skin deep

Rubrtoe - 8 months ago
Pixel 6a user review: I don't know if it's the phone or the Android OS but my pixel 6a doesn't work worth a darn in many different areas . I suspect honestly that most of it has to do with the fact that the Android OS, while slicker than ever, is more flawed than ever regarding important features that don't work at all or work correctly. There are a number of issues that persist even after updates or get worse after updates #1 these are all issues that I've never been able to resolve since I got the phone six months despite having spending several hours trying. #2 I just found out that the notifications for the assistant on my phone are off and locked and cannot be turned back on. Also, a topic in google help on it is also locked without a useable solution having been posted! #3 my 6a has no memory card slot and no way to upload my personal music files into my phone for playing on my car system. Supposedly, when plugging the phone's USB to a PC a notification is supposed to pop up in the top area to switch from "charging to "data transfer" but it doesn't and no one at Verizon or Google will help me beyond giving me the instructions on how to switch between functions, which I told them doesn't appear. #4 the night and day themes come on at will whenever with no control even whether I have them set to automatic or manual. #5 and this is with all windows and android based devices these days: there are no black fonts anymore, just medium grey to pale grey ones that range in difficult to see to nearly impossible. #6 The voice to type function has gotten even less accurate far worse than it has been with pasts Android versions. The program seems to have NO "context" programing to allow it to pick correctly between simple words like "in" or "and" in a sentence, nor for practically any other language conjunction or connector words. There doesn't seem to be ANY programing in this app for the app to make choices based on any contextual reference in the sentence and I know for a fact that it could have and should have this ability for want of investment of time and money to make it better, not to mention respect for Android users. #7 also introduced in this version is "smart punctuation" for voice to text typing that is horrendously bad and which cannot be disabled, reset, retrained or anything.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using this phone for a while as my primary phone and absolutely don’t have any complaints and cons. Performance is awesome and I love that it’s very less weight and it’s charging very fast. Battery life is also outstanding, with big graphic gaming apps I’m able to run the phone for almost 24 hours.I love how I could blur the background in pics and erase unwanted objects without using any extra app… just go for it and you will love it especially the camera lovers.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Pixel 6a is a great upgrade from my Note 8. The camera takes great pictures in all different kinds of lighting. The phone didn't come preloaded with a bunch of unnecessary apps that takes up unnecessary memory. The screen is clear and crisp. However, the phone is rather slippery and needs a good case ASAP. After months of use I still dislike that you have to press two buttons at the same time to power off. It's seemingly impossible with just my right hand. But the likes far outweigh any dislikes. This has been a great phone and I'd recommend it.

So far i am not impressed with the 6a. Compared to the 4a I previously had, it seems like the battery depletes a lot faster and it's really sluggish about checking for emails and messages. Sometimes I have to restart it to get it to check for messages correctly. There are other things, but they may not be related to individual apps not the phone, for example not acknowledging my location despite fiddling with location and app settings. I never had any complaints about my 4a until water or dust got into the charging port and nothing seemed to help. I don't know if my impressions of the phone will allow me to trade it in or not. I don't know if a replacement 6a will be any better. I have read some third party reviews that said that the 4a is better than the 6a in some ways (probably battery performance for sure!) and I think I should have paid more attention.

sterphles - 1 year ago
I have used a Pixel 3a and LG G7 for the last few years, mostly happy but thought this phone looked like a solid value. Big mistake - all the quality feel that the 3a and my girlfriend's 4a had is gone with this tacky plastic monster. It already feels cheap in your hand with a very odd and unbalanced weight, then the screen starts to distort under very light touch pressure. The screen brightness is woeful even at the highest settings, doesn't feel any faster than the 3a or 4a. There's a constantly present screen lag on scrolling that's just barely perceptible but registers as a little hiccup where other phones don't, it's very annoying - it feels like I'm using a touch screen on a car infotainment system from 10 years ago. The battery life is acceptable but I really can't find any redeeming qualities of this phone. With a lot of good manufacturers dropping out the past few years, I'm not sure what the answer is at this price point, but it's definitely not this phone. I had it for around 3 weeks and couldn't deal with it anymore and went back to my Pixel 3a with a dying battery. Please don't accept this garbage device as an "upgrade" over previous models, it's pure cost cutting.
