Book Synopsis

The hilarious #1 New York Times bestselling picture book about a chimpanzee in a very bad mood--perfect for young children learning how to deal with confusing feelings.

Jim the chimpanzee is in a terrible mood for no good reason. His friends can't understand it--how can he be in a bad mood when it's SUCH a beautiful day? They have lots of suggestions for how to make him feel better. But Jim can't take all the advice...and has a BIT of a meltdown. Could it be that he just needs a day to feel grumpy?

Suzanne and Max Lang bring hilarity and levity to this very important lesson on emotional literacy, demonstrating to kids that they are allowed to feel their feelings.

Jim Panzee is back and grumpier than ever in Grumpy Monkey: Party Time and Grumpy Monkey: Up All Night!

Review Quotes

Bright watercolors of animals doing their thing are winning accompaniments to the narrative's welcome message that it's OK to be down sometimes. --School Library Journal

Great bibliotherapy for the crabby, cranky, and cross. Oscar-nominated animator Max Lang's cartoony illustrations lighten the mood without making light of Jim's mood. --Kirkus Reviews

Crisp illustrations featuring a broad cast of animated, boldly colored animals ...will draw readers into Jim's situation until the reassuring outcome. --Booklist

[A] reassuring picture book about feelings. --Publishers Weekly

The book is great but there are multiple pages that repeat. Needs better quality checking before shipping. Kiddo still likes it though.

Got this when my child was 1 and he wasn’t interested but by 18 months it is one of his favorite books. Just know it has lots of words, so not a quick read.

Loved this story. My daughter is 4 and going through some BIG feelings and this story says you might not even realize that you are feeling an uncomfortable feeling, but it’s ok to feel that way anyway. So it helps her realize it’s ok to be “grumpy”

This is a great kid book that explains it is okay to have the feelings you have, even if everything around you is beautiful and great you may not feel the same. Own that feeling. I read it to my 8 month old!

I love everything about this book! The illustrations are bright and beautiful. But most of all, I love the message this sends, especially for my 2 year old. We all have bad days sometimes, and Grumpy Monkey teaches us it’s ok to have a bad day.
