  • A: Yes, and it is a nightmare as the instructions are really bad as are the 'predrilled holes'.

submitted byRockyMountainDesigns - 5 years ago

Q: Material: Pine, Plywood (Frame) Surface Material: Plywood What does Frame mean? The walls, shelves, and back of the bookcase is solid wood? And what is surface material? You mean all the wood is covered in plywood veneer?

submitted by K - 5 years ago

  • A: This is NOT solid wood. It's just plain old plywood with a cheap veneer. False advertising to describe it as 'solid wood'.

submitted byRockyMountainDesigns - 5 years ago

  • A: Dear customer, Thank you for inquiring about our Simpli Home Amherst 5 Shelf Bookcase. We would like to inform you that the bookcase is made of solid Pine wood and the back panel of the bookcase is made of 3 mm plywood. submitted by happykaren - 7 years ago

  • A: Hello, Total weight capacity is 100 lbs. Simpli-Home

submitted bySimpliHomeProducts - 7 years ago

  • A: Cheaply made so we disagree that the thin plywood will hold 110 lbs. Note the manufacturer says 'total weigh capacity' is 110 lbs. This means that it will hold ONLY 20 lbs. per shelf.

    Too smelly to keep inside

Looks nice, though the finish has some imperfections here and there. I bought this because my daughter has it in another color, and it's great in her office. This one, though, arrived with a smell so strong that it made me feel so sick that I wasn't able to keep it in the house. The smell lingered in the room where we built it; I assume the smelly finish rubbed off on the rug where we scooted the pieces around during building. I was leaving town so put them in the garaage and will see how they are when I return.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re sorry that the strong odor from the finish made it impossible for you to keep the piece indoors and caused such discomfort. We understand how upsetting this must have been, particularly when you were familiar with the product through your daughter’s positive experience. We’re also sorry to hear about the finish imperfections. Concerns involving strong odors deserve careful attention, and we’d appreciate the opportunity to investigate this further. Please contact our Customer Service team at customerservice@simpli-home.com with your order details and photos of the product, if available, so we can review the issue and discuss the appropriate next steps with you.

Sturdy Solid Wood Bookcase Fits Well In Library...

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like that this product is made of solid wood except for the backing material. The backing material is made of what I assume is pressed or processed wood, however it is not flimsy and the finish matches the overall color and texture of the primary wood. Assembly was easy using the supplied tools and took about 30 minutes . Although I didn’t need to use the extra hardware, it was nice to have that provided. The instructions are well written in English. All parts are well labeled and the outer pieces show which side is to face the front. I am happy with this bookcase and it will fit well with my other, larger bookcase.

Good quality and easy to assemble!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this as a Christmas gift for my fiancé and we both absolutely love it! He has large, heavy books, so we needed a bookcase that could support the weight and offer enough shelf depth, and this was the perfect choice! The best part is how easy it was to assemble, it took about an hour, if not less. The russet brown color is beautiful and rich, and this piece alone has significantly improved the aesthetic of my fiancé’s office!

    Almost perfect!

This seems like a pretty sturdy bookcase, and the French Blue color is so true to the pictures which was a relief! However, my one disappointment - the back of the left side piece had a pretty big crack/fractured part. Not sure if that’s just the byproduct of shipping or what, but it built ok, and like I said, was on the back side, so easily hidden.
    From CS team
Thanks for your review! We're glad you love the sturdiness and that the French Blue color matched your expectations—it's always great when a piece looks just like the pictures. Sorry to hear about the crack on the back of the side panel. It’s possible that happened during shipping, but we appreciate you letting us know. If you ever need assistance, feel free to reach out. Enjoy your new bookcase! Best regards, Simpli Home Ltd.
