Pick a book. Grow a Reader!
This series is part of Scholastic's early reader line, Acorn, aimed at children who are learning to read. With easy-to-read text, a short-story format, plenty of humor, and full-color artwork on every page, these books will boost reading confidence and fluency. Acorn books plant a love of reading and help readers grow!
Ember the Fire Dragon and Gus the Mushroom Dragon are having a great time playing with their new friend Hazy, a young Cloud Dragon. But then, a huge gust of wind blows Hazy away! Ember and Gus have to hurry -- Hazy is heading straight for the mysterious forest. Along the way, Gus and Ember meet a kind River Dragon. Can the River Dragon help Gus and Ember catch up to Hazy in time to help their new friend?
Gus and Ember's adventure is told through five full-color short stories with easy-to-read text throughout! This series is set in the same fantasy world as Tracey West's New York Times bestselling Dragon Masters series, making Dragon Hill a perfect choice for budding readers who aren't quite ready to read the Branches series yet!
Review Quotes
Praise for Rise of the Earth Dragon (Dragon Masters #1):
"In this first of the Dragon Masters series, vocabulary is accessible; sentences, paragraphs, and chapters are short; and dialogue moves the story along rapidly. Black-and-white sketch-type drawings add depth to the story and feelings to the characters (both children and dragons). Emergent readers will find happy success here." -- Booklist
"The first of a new series of early chapter books, this entry is sure to attract fans. Brief chapters, large print, lots of action, attractive illustrations in every spread including a maplike panorama, an enviable protagonist -- who wouldn't want to be a Dragon Master? -- all combine to make an entertaining read. With plenty left to be resolved, the next entry will be eagerly sought after." -- Kirkus Reviews
