  • A: This serves as both an expansion (new quest book, hero miniatures, double sided board) if you already own the base game, but it also functions as a scaled down, standalone game and does not require the base game to play it. Instead of miniatures most of the monsters and furniture are cardboard tokens, ensuring that a completely functional game system fits in a smaller box at a lower price point.

Tons of Fun!

I love that this is a more affordable starter pack. My husband and I had been wanting to buy this for our son for a few months but the starter pack with all the miniatures (which is fun!) is much more expensive so we kept putting it off. I was excited when we ran across this for $50 at Target. We had the best time playing this together. The game didn't take too long, even though we had never played before, but was still fun and interesting. Something to consider is that the cardboard pieces might not last long if you have several small children, I definitely expect to need to replace them over time. But overall this is a good deal because this contains a lot of pieces.

Great product new and old players

HeroQuest First Light is an amazing introduction to this exciting game. As a long time collector I can also say it is great for folks who’ve been playing for 30 years as well! It includes new hero models and a dragon model. I find it incredibly useful as a portable version of the game as well (easily tossed into a suitcase for a trip). The cardboard standees are a deviation from the norm, but they are very high quality and give you a great dungeon feel. And I forgot to mention that this set is the first new official alternate board for the game, which I love.
