Good purchase...would like the expansions
We just opened it and have played once (2 players). Learning the nuances of those 2 characters and how best to approach game play with them. I wish Target also carried the expansion games.

Woodland War for cute victory
Root is a fantastic asymmetric game where you fight for your factions right to rule the forest. The theme is impactful and cute and the components are top notch. This game’s only drawback is that it does take a bit of time to get to know the factions and due to the asymmetry, it is played best at 3-4 players.

A Fantastic Asymmetrical War Game!
Quite honestly the best game I own overall. Root is not your typical war/strategy game. Rather than the goal of equal armies duking it out for domination, Root encourages a much more interesting style of play with asymmetrical factions. Each one has its own play style, scoring, special moves, starting positions and so forth. It adds a much more interesting player dynamic that you don't see in most board games and always keeps the game fresh no matter how well you know it. While this can also make the game more complex to learn, it thankfully comes with a well broken down set of rules and player boards that walk you through each turn and even setup. The art is also something to adore, an aspect that always sucks my friends in, even the ones who hate complex games. And every time we play it's a blast! Quite literally everyone I've shown this too loves it, despite any bits of complexity. This is definitely a must buy if you want a brand new twist to the war genre of board games!
