Honor Bound by Hallee Bridgeman is the first book in her Love & Honor series. Medical missionary, Dr. Cynthia Myers moves to Africa to seek meaning for her life. Failing to save the life of the warlord’s son, her life is now in danger. Army Special Forces Captain, Rick Norton must rescue Cynthia without getting his team killed. This was a great beginning to the series. The action was non-stop. The camaraderie between the team members was admirable. I can’t wait to see where this series goes from here. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

This book has it all. Action-adventure, political intrigue, and of course some tension filled romance. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. I was skeptical at first because the book opens with a list of military terms and acronyms and then the first chapter is very military centric. We're a military family so I wasn't put off by it, I was just expecting a more traditional romantic suspense type of book. I'm so glad I stuck with it because it turned out to be a fabulous read. The story starts in a remote part of Africa and eventually winds up in the United States. The journey between those two places is edge-of-your-seat drama that kept the pages flying by. If book one is any indication, this is going to be a riveting series. No spoilers, but there are loose strings at the end of the book that I am sure will be tied off in books two and three. I am looking forward to reading both of those books. If you enjoy a fast-paced story with life threatening situations this story is for you. If you enjoy a thrilling romance this story is also for you. I highly recommend you add this book and series to your reading list. I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Dr. Cynthia Myers wants to make a difference and she never knew that serving as a medical missionary could be so rewarding. She also never dreamed that it could be so dangerous and that she may need a Special Forces operation to save her life! Will Captain Rick Norton be able to protect her from African rebels? Hallie Bridgeman is a 'new to me' author and I'm anxious to read more of her work! Her characters were engaging and well-developed, and the danger sometimes took my breath away. Cynthia and Rick appear as different as night and day, but they are both honorable people, and their attraction can't be denied. Honor Bound is filled with suspense and the author does a wonderful job of explaining some of the military tactics and maneuvers. It's realistic so there are disturbing topics of war, suffering, and death but there's also a strong message of faith woven into the engrossing plot. This is inspiring and exciting romantic suspense and I look forward to Word of Honor, the next book in Bridgeman's Love & Honor series. I received a complimentary copy from Revell Reads but there was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Others highly recommended this book, but I was sitting on the fence—did I or did I not want to read it? Reason being, the military aspect is SO out of my comfort zone. However, the thoughts of a female missionary Dr. in an exotic setting finally won me over. Soon I was on a dangerous trek through the steamy African jungle—laden with mosquitoes, crocodiles, & hippopotami lurking underneath murky waters, cobras twisting around trees, and bullets flying everywhere! The characters are not only courageous, but able to joke in the face of danger, cry when vulnerable, and humbly pray when there's seemingly no way out. Captain Rick Norton, leader of the Green Beret team is our handsome hero...it doesn't get much more heroic than that! He can handle dangerous rebels, but meets his match in the feisty Dr. Cynthia Myers, who prefers serving those in war-torn Africa to the cushy, superficial life of the daughter to the vice president. Filled with exhilarating action, tender romance, and truly a book about modern day heroes and the sacrifices they make for our country every day—this is one novel I feel honored just to have read. *I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the publisher and was not required to write a favorable review.*

Cynthia is a doctor working in the deepest jungle delivering babies, but she is also the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. Out of nowhere, warlords invade her village, and threaten to kill her. Suddenly an American contingent appears, and kills the bad guys. When told she must leave with the Americans, Cynthia has a fit, but reluctantly goes. When trying to get out, they face a harrowing journey through the jungle as terrorists continue hunting them. Instead of things calming down when they get to civilization, there are even more dangers. Despite all the hazards, Cynthia finds herself becoming friends with Rick, the head of the American rescue group. Will Cynthia find happiness after she was forced to leave the jungle? When they get back to the United States, will Cynthia and Rick ever see each other again? Can Cynthia and Rick have a future with her being part of an affluent family, and him, a soldier from a small town? Is it possible to have a relationship with Rick when Cynthia knows first-hand how dangerous his work is? This story is full of action, danger, and thrills which will keep you turning pages to see what happens. This is a clean tale told from a Christian viewpoint. I recommend this five-star book to fans of people in harm's way— and how, or if, they find their way out of it! Barbour Publishers has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, Honor Bound, for the purpose of review.

“My knife saves lives. Your knives take lives,” Cynthia tells Rick in Hallee Bridgeman’s novel, Honor Bound. ~ What ~ The first book in the Love & Honor series, this three-hundred-and-eighty-four-page paperback targets those interested in romantic suspense involving the military. With no profanity, topics of physical abuse, war, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The beginning includes reviews, a list of the author’s written books, a dedication, and a glossary of military terms and acronyms while the ending has a dozen discussion questions, food recipes, part of another novel by the writer, a biography, and advertisements. In this fast-paced read, Dr. Cynthia Myers has found solace working in the African jungle, away from the pain and shame of her past in America. When a warlord’s son dies under her care, she is forced to go with U.S. Army Captain Rick Norton and his team of Green Berets out of the jungle and back to civilization. While the thirty-two-year-old gets involved in the military missions and the team’s camaraderie, she has to decide what is the most important to her. ~ Why ~ This is an exciting read if you like military ops, loyalty, and engaging team players as they save and protect others. The romance between two who are bound to their oaths is well orchestrated. I appreciate that both protagonists rely on and pray to God. I like the details in explaining the U.S. military tactical operations. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ may not care for the prayers to God or Biblical references. Others who are not interested in military stories about the struggles in relationships may avoid the book. While three-quarters of the book is action-packed, the ending is predictable and quick. ~ Wish ~ It would have been thoughtful to include the simple plan of eternal salvation. ~ Want ~ If you enjoy a military read with a sprinkle of romance involving being honor bounds, this first one in the series book will make you want more. Thanks to Revell for furnishing this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

Dr. Cynthia Myers is a medical missionary in a small nation in Africa when Captain Rick Norton and his army team show up on a mission to capture a warlord terrorizing the area. Part of their mission is to rescue Cynthia and the pacifist doctor reluctantly accompanies them to safety. Getting there was intriguing as well as realistically portrayed as dangerous and the danger did not alleviate once they got to a city. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters, their playful dialogue in the midst of tense situations and how they all took care of each other. The characters and the action were all credible and obviously well researched. The romance that begins between Rick and Cynthia was not unexpected and was a well written part of the entire story. I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in a new series and look forward to the next one. The fast pace and non-stop action kept me reading and the humor interspersed kept me engaged in the personalities of the characters. All opinions expressed are my own.
