About the Book
This book, written and designed by celebrated illustrator T.M. Detwiler, gives first-time dads a visual reference of what to expect during pregnancy and the first year of Fatherdom and how to handle it.Book Synopsis
How to Dad is the perfect book for new and soon-to-be fathers -- because babies don't come with instructions (and if they did, you wouldn't read them anyway).
That's huge, because you could spend hundreds of hours reading thousands of pages on what you should expect when you bring a new life into this world, but you're a busy guy and you're barely halfway through this paragraph and already getting antsy. Thankfully, this book is a powerful weapon in your ongoing fight to get up to speed on what it means to be a father. How to Dad distills essential tips and tricks for caring for your progeny (and partner) into detailed illustrations and simple descriptions of complex concepts as you can spend less time with your nose in a book and more time earning that #1 Dad coffee mug. Starting with the positive pregnancy test and covering every major moment you'll encounter through your child's first birthday, this illustrated guide includes expert insight from doctors and specialists as well as timeless advice from actual parents. A written reference book could never hope to cover every aspect of what it meant to be a dad. That's why this one has pictures.Review Quotes
"This book is like a book, but informative and fun to read, like a non-book thing."
-- Jim Gaffigan
"How to Dad might become essential reading for new parents like the classic What to Expect When You're Expecting. The illustrated guides to changing diapers, bathing an infant and even the best "funny faces" feel like something fathers would return to often that first year. There are helpful, easy-to-remember tips for teaching children early language and positive, active play. There are clear, step-by-step instructions for things that seem simple, like handling a poopsplosion or swaddling the baby. It helps eliminate the trial-and-error approach most parents have to suffer through until they get the technique just right."
--Pittsburgh Post Gazette
--Deccan Chronicle
"It is this graphic novel that lays out everything a new father would need to know through the first early days of pregnancy, including how to give a good foot massage and what are all the different baby gear things that you need to know about, and it's entertaining. It's humorous, it's a very clear -- and anytime my husband doesn't know what he's doing, I hand him the book." --Iowa Public Radio, Talk of Iowa's 2023 Book Guide
"The unique and amusing illustrations motivate the reader to read the informative descriptions. While there are plenty of joke books and coffee mugs given to new fathers, How to Dad would likely be appreciated and remembered far more." --The Psychiatry Resource
