The top has a loop so you could hang it if you want or you can just place it on a table. The side door opens and you can place either a real votive type candle or an electri candle in it. Overall it's a really nice, cute, authentic looking lantern.

With the little loop on the top this lantern can be hung, but it also looks nice on a table. The effect when lit is really pretty!

It’s also very well made and sturdy - I hung it and had no issues, but I prefer it on a table. The door is easy to open and closes securely, and I was able to fit various sizes of candles inside. The frosted glass is decorated, and light does still come through the panes and the metal bit above. I have gone out and bought a couple more, I like them so much!

It isn't equally weighted, so it has a tendency to tilt. The seams of the metal look shoddy. The etched glass is pretty and there IS enough airflow for a tealight or a votive. Not much light shines through, so it isn't much of a functional lantern, hence the "decorative" title
