Perfect for Curious George fans to learn about these traditions with familiar characters. Being a board book is best for littles to explore the pictures and tabs on their own.

Lots of fun for George as his friend Mei shares all the excitement of activities surrounding the Chinese New Year! Food, fun, and even a haircut are some of the ways to commemorate the holiday. Children will be intrigued by all there is to do and celebrate in this brightly colored picture book with the well loved character Curious George.

It's Chinese New Year Curious George is an adorable and fun introduction to Chinese New Year. The tabbed book is perfect for little hands! Each tab highlights a custom/tradition for Chinese New Year. I’ve recently learned that Chinese New Year and Lunar New Year are not identical! Some countries celebrate Lunar New Year with different traditions than in this book. It’s Chinese New Year Curious George is about the traditions found in Chinese culture. The illustrations are lively and will draw in readers of all ages. The rhyming text is engaging and informative. I learned a lot about this holiday and I think this book is will be great for those who celebrate and those who want to learn more about the Chinese New Year and learn about a different culture.

We are a bi-racial family that celebrates Chinese New Year, and this book explains all the highlights and traditions of the biggest Chinese holiday of the year! It’s a great read for both Chinese families looking to explain their culture to young ones, and also for anyone looking to learn more about the lunar new year holiday. I love the tabs and how I each concept has its own dedicated poem and spread aimed at younger children. It features the story of the Nian monster, the Chinese zodiac, lucky money, key foods and other traditions like hair cuts and cleaning the house. All this, combined with the lovely verse and a household favorite—Curious George—make this the perfect book for my 2 and 5 year olds this Chinese New Year!
Such a cute Chinese New Year book!

WOW. I wish I had this book when I was a little kid, and also as a parent when my own kids were little! This book explains in rhyme, both warmly and succinctly, all the major traditions connected to Chinese New Year. Some of these things I myself didn't even learn about until I was in my 20s and 30s! The style of artwork that I grew up seeing in the Curious George books is presented here in a way that's whimsical and fun; it perfectly complements the story's tone, and it gives Chinese American kids a chance to see themselves represented in a story about one of the iconic characters in all of young kids' literature. This would make a great gift at Lunar New Year!

A contribution to the Curious George franchise that serves up a thorough introduction to Chinese New Year, beginning with the legend that it stems from and preparation for the fifteen-day celebration through the start of the Lantern Festival after New Year's Day. Author Maria Wen Adcock stays true to the details that are part of Chinese New Year celebrations as opposed to lunar new year practices from other Asian cultures. Children will love discovering their Chinese Zodiac animal, based on their birth year as well as those of other members of their household or classroom. Readers follow along as George joins his friend Mei. This George remains curious, but without being mischievous. Be advised that although the format of this book is a board book, it isn't the typical version. There are many more words, some of which are sophisticated. That said, this makes the book sturdier over time as kids are able to come back to it over time, growing into some of the language while still enjoying the illustrations and traditions at a younger age
Fun & Informative!

A cute introduction to Chinese New Year! (It mentions lunar new year more generally, but focuses on specifically Chinese customs.) It’s listed as a board book, but really it’s a picture book with tabs. So it’s designed for preschool+ kids, not babies/toddlers. It includes lots of of information in a fun package!
Joyful celebration with a beloved character

Brilliant! What a clever idea to introduce Curious George to the Chinese New Year, thus teaching the child (and possibly, adult) about this cultural time of year. No need to be embarrassed, George wouldn't have to be aware of the customs as he is a monkey, after all. And of course, he is curious, and the children listening to the story will be wondering the same things. I am happy to see this multicultural Curious George book is published and can now be included in the holiday sections of classroom and public libraries. I taught first grade and this would have been great to help explain this to children. They would have been wearing red the next day, I'm sure. My adopted daughter is from a country with "Lunar New Year" which I was glad to see mentioned. She would have loved books like this when she was young. She was in Shanghai for this event for one year, which was an educational and moving experience for her. I sent this book to our grandsons. For myself, I like now being aware the lantern festival follows Chinese New Year, as I wasn't clear on that point. Thank you for this enlightening and helpful book! I hope it will be added to libraries everywhere.
Great Addition to Curious George Series!

This is a great book to learn more about Chinese New Year and its traditions and history. Kids and parents are introduced to the unique customs of Chinese New Year and experience them along with Curious George and his friend Mei. As kids grow older, they can still read the book and understand more about the holiday, and may even want to try some of the food or activities that the book shows and describes.
