Die Psychoanalyse, die das Unbewusste erforscht, gab Künstler*innen des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts neue Konzepte, Termini sowie wertvolle psychologische Werkzeuge an die Hand, um mit dem gesellschaftlichen Phänomen der Gewalt gegen Frauen umzugehen. Der Band präsentiert bahnbrechende Forschungen zur Repräsentation geschlechtsspezifischer Gewalt in der Kunst. Kulturelle Konstruktionen, die mit dem Phänomen verwoben sind, werden untersucht, und Strategien der Gegenpositionierung in Kunst und Psychoanalyse, die auf verschiedenen Kontinenten entwickelt wurden, offengelegt.
