The planet Tal'Jor is a world of stark division and war: the advanced, technocratic Upper Cities and the spiritually adept Outlanders of the desolate lowlands. Stuck in the middle are the Contractors: nomadic mechanics and traders who roam the barren expanse in massive, militarized convoys. Among them is Ava, a young orphan with a fierce determination and dreams of one day piloting her own powerful mech suit.
But Ava's life takes a radical turn when her home is attacked and she is left with a relic in her possession that unlocks a dormant spiritual power: she has the power of a Kaidro, a rare ability that allows a lucky few to channel the raw energy of the mysterious Astral Realm into the physical world.
Ava, and the few survivors of her compound, including her best friend Kiwi, are saved by the prince and his mech suit from the Outlander attack. They set course for the Upper City, and Ava decides to investigate the mysterious relic left to her by her Omah. She is whisked away to the Astral Realm where she is forced into a battle with The Radical, and only with help is she able to escape and get an idea of the troubles ahead.
Plagued by vivid, prophetic dreams and struggling to reconcile her identity as a mech pilot with her terrifying new spiritual connection, Ava embarks on a journey of self-discovery-forced to confront the violent, political, and personal dangers that surround her. As her powers grow increasingly unstable: she may be the world's only chance for peace, or she could become the ultimate catalyst for its destruction.
