Description
A low profile, high performance rug pad with strong gripping power, recommended for preventing rugs from slipping in high traffic areas. This Thin Lock rug pad combines a thin layer of felt with a rubber backing. A coarse felt upper layer is designed to grab and hold the bottom of your rug to prevent rug bunching and wrinkling. This pad can be easily trimmed with scissors for a custom fit. A rug pad is essential to keeping your rug attractive and to extend the life of your rug. Mohawk always recommends the use of a slip resistant rug pad under your rug. Rug pads should be spot cleaned with a solution of mild detergent and water or cleaned professionally. Do not machine wash.

Q: Is this rug pad safe to use on luxury vinyl plank?

A: We have tested this rug pad on all Mohawk flooring types and have not had any adverse reactions to date. If your flooring is from another manufacturer, we recommend checking with them if there are any specific things they advise against. The face material is crafted from post-consumer recycled polyester. This face material is then backed with a non-slip latex that is about 75% natural rubber and 25% synthetic rubber.

Q: I’m assuming this is from the packaging itself or some sort of special chemical they spray on the fibers. But It smells awful. Any recommendations to help get the overwhelming smell out?

A: Yes, to get the optimal use out of the dual surface rug pad, it needs to be laid according to flooring type. For carpet, place the rug pad under your rug with the felt side facing down toward the floor. For hard surface flooring, place the rug pad under your rug with the non-slip latex rubber side facing down toward the floor.

Smells like a dead animal
I had this in a room by itself for three weeks to air out. I opened the door three weeks later and there were 20-30 house flies in that room. Not sure how they got in but the rug pad smells like a dead animal even after three weeks. Disgusting. Wish I would have read the reviews before wasting time and smelling up a room in my house. Get rid of this junk, target.

Works well, no odor in mine?!
I bought this a couple months ago. Works well under a small rug on hardwood. Grip is good, though not perfect and does add some cushioning to the rug. I needed something to help with the echo in a small office and this definitely helped along with obviously the rug itself. I was surprised to see all the reviews complaining about the odor because I did not experience that whatsoever.

Do not buy this!
This smells absolutely awful. I tried airing it out in the wind, sun, added baking soda to see if that would absorb the stench. It’s terrible. The smell gets on your skin when you touch this so you have to scrub with soap several times to remove it. Do NOT recommend this.

Thanks for sharing the feedback on our rug pad products. Our non-skid backing does have a distinct smell from the rubber backing. This smell is inherent to the product and is considered part of the normal process and will typically dissipate over a couple days. Recently, we have received numerous complaints across all our selling channels that the odor is more than what we would normally expect. We are taking the complaints seriously and are pursuing several initiatives to determine the root cause of this stronger smell. Based on the information we have to date; we believe the odor is most likely contaminated dye that is added to the latex for the color. This was identified several months back by our vendor, and the dye was returned. It’s possible we have some older inventory that was not disposed of that could have been part of this isolated event. Our quality team is in the process of checking all inventory 3 months or older for the offensive odor and ensure these items are pulled from our shippable inventory. Wrong item, twice!
I have ordered the same item twice, a Karastan 8' x 12' rug pad. Twice I have received a Mohawk 8' x 10'. The first was a delivery from the store, the second from the local distribution center. I know the rug pad exists, I have seen the empty place in the store where it should be. This should not be a difficult task to ship a correct item.

DON'T BUY!! ZERO STARS!!!
This pad REEKS!! You can't even be in the room. I've had it for months waiting for it to off-gas. It's bad, folks. Industrial poison. Can't even describe it. Couldn't sleep in the room with it. Poor dogs having to lay right over it. 😞 Even customer service was spraying their area when I left. They agreed something is wrong with it. It's unacceptable! Unfortunately, Target will not return because it's outside the 90 days. Needed to hire movers to move the bed to help me get it out and the wait time put me outside their return window. $40 down the tube. You can't use it for anything. It's awful. And pay attn to the reviews!! Karastan backs their product. So, my advice is to skip it. The odor does not go away!!! If you've purchased it return it as soon as you can. That Target is even selling this ought to be a crime. You can't reuse it in anyway. It's just trash now. Zero stars. Zero.

Stinky, rolled and balled up mess. Period.
As many people noted, the smell is horrendous. I have extreme allergies and man. I did let 2 and 3 of 3 air out in my garage for about 2 months before install as my 1st one is still offgassing in my kiddos playroom 😒. My worst beef is I had installed these together prevent my rugs from bunching up and they Do.Not.Work. and matter of fact bunch up to the point that I trip nearly every time I am walking through the kiddos rooms. Like trip hazard when holding a baby. 0 stars. Would NOT recommend which is such a shame because I have cut them down and thus are not returnable. Boo.

Works but stinks
Works great for a rug pad as long as you dont mind its foul odor. I aired out this rug for days and tried my hardest to get rid of the smell but it always stunk up whatever room it was in. Save yoursellf the headache and get a different one.

Allergic reaction - DO NOT BUY
Within 24 hours of installing this rug pad, I started to experience an allergic reaction: sneezing, runny nose, and my throat closing. It smelled AWFUL when I opened the package, which should have been my warning sign. Some chemical in this rug pad caused me to get sick, and I only realized this when I felt immediately better at work but awful as soon as I got home. Too bad I already threw out the packaging so I can't return it. I'm still airing out my home from the awful stench of this pad. Please heed my review and others - this rug pad is toxic and Target should not be selling it.

HORRIBLE, TOXIC SMELL!
While the pad was easy to cut down to size and it grips well, this pad smells ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! I can understand a rubber/plastic/synthetic material having a short "off gassing" period, but the chemicals used in this product CAN NOT be healthy. Every time I enter my living room, I start to get a headache within 5 minutes! The smell is best described as a vacuum that has a burnt out rubber belt that ran over V.O.M.I.T! I've had this pad in my living room for a few days now, and it still smells, even after opening the windows multiple times. Right after opening, the smell was not super obvious, but as it sat in the house, it got worse and worse!!! Unfortunately, I threw away the packaging as I was happy with the grip and ease of use the first day.... folding this up and throwing it outside until I can bring it back to Target!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY!!
