Q: Will this help hold my area rug on top of my carpet?

submitted by Christy - 6 years ago
  • A: This is not how it's shown in the pictures or the video. The latex side is shown down, against the flooring. Which is correct?

submitted byKP - 6 years ago
  • A: Hello! Yes, this rug pad is made for use on either hard surface flooring or soft surface flooring. It will hold your rug in place on top of carpet. Just place the felt side down against the carpet, and the rubber/latex side up against the back of your area rug.

Q: Can I cut this pad to use for small bathroom rugs? And does it do well to keep rugs from slipping on carpeting?

submitted by CWood28 - 7 years ago
  • A: yes, you can cut though need very heavy scissors. Will keep bath rugs from slipping, though might take a while to dry if it's wet in the bathroom as it's pretty thick fibrous material. No it's not the appropriate choice for keeping rugs on carpeting. need a special kind of pad for that.

submitted byrug fan - 7 years ago
  • A: Are use the pad and a laminated wood floor with a heavy wool rug. It’s never moved. I don’t think it would be practical in her bathroom because it’s much thicker than the other kind of rug pad. I don’t recommend putting a rug on top of carpeting. Hey I don’t have a seat.

Q: Is it safe to use this rug pad on vinyl flooring? or will it leave some kind of residue or stickiness or staining? Thank you.

submitted by mamaof2 - 8 years ago
  • A: I use it on hardwood floor and it has worked perfectly!!!

    submitted byHamplum1 - 8 years ago
  • A: No such problems with wood laminate floor.

submitted byJVil - 8 years ago

Q: The pad is 1 inch larger than my rug. Will I be able to cut the pad down to size so it will fit under my rug?

submitted by Tedi - 8 years ago
  • A: Yes. I cut mine in half.

submitted bySasasasarah - 8 years ago
  • A: I was able to cut mine to size with a very sharp scissors.

Q: I want to use this under an area rug. Will that work?

submitted by Noelle - 8 years ago
  • A: Yes.

submitted byDesigner in my mind - 8 years ago
  • A: yes. it does a good job and is a good value. don't expect to get much cushioning from it though.

Q: How thick is the pad?

submitted by Karen - 4 months ago

Q: The spec's listed for 5' round pad say it is 58", 2" less in diameter than the 5' round should be. The 6' round specifications show it is a full 72" round. Is 5' cut smaller? I need 60", please advise

submitted by Cloud March - 5 months ago
  • A: Hi, there. This pad is 4' 10". It is not offered in a 60". However, it is usually ideal to have the rug pad be 1 - 2" smaller then the rug so that the rug can overlap the rug pad.

Q: Does this have rubber or vinyl against floor? I was told by LVP rep not to use those two in rug pads, but people are being told they can use. Is rubber only on one side and it goes against carpet then?

submitted by Mysbond - 7 months ago
  • A: We have tested this rug pad on all Mohawk flooring types and have not had any adverse reactions to date. If your flooring is from another manufacturer, we recommend checking with them if there are any specific things they advise against. The face material is crafted from post-consumer recycled polyester. This face material is then backed with a non-slip latex that is about 75% natural rubber and 25% synthetic rubber. To get the optimal use out of the Dual Surface Rug Pad, it needs to be laid according to flooring type. For carpet, place the rug pad under your rug with the felt side facing down toward the floor. For hard surface flooring, place the rug pad under your rug with the non-slip latex rubber side facing down toward the floor.

Q: I know you recommend spot or professional cleaning. What would happen if we machine washed the underpad?

submitted by Margio - 9 months ago
  • A: Machine washing a rug pad would expand and loosen the fibers due to the construction of the pad, ultimately causing it to unravel.

I had ordered two rug pads and we just had to take them out of our house because after several weeks the awful smell still didn't subside and was giving us headaches. It smells strongly like pee or manure. Do not recommend, especially if you are sensitive to smells. I should have listened to the reviews on here.
1 reply from From the Manufacturer team - 22 days ago
Our rug pads may have a distinct smell from the rubber backing; this odor is inherent to the product and is considered normal and should dissipate over the course of a few days. Our rug pads are tested routinely to ensure the product material content meets guidelines for consumer safety. Our rug pad is also sold through our commercial group to schools and office buildings, and we submit to annual VOC testing to ensure compliance with these additional requirements. If you continue to have an issue after allowing the rug pad to air out or feel that the issue is outside what would be considered normal, please contact our customer care team for additional assistance at the following email, customer_care@mohawkind.com.

Great rug pad! I checked a bunch of reviews this pad was well rated. We have a new rug which is fairly thin. With the 1/2 inch Mohawk rug pad it's great, nice and cushy. It also has a gripping back/ bottom so it will not slide. I would definitely recommend this rug pad. My husband did have to trim it to fit under rug, no problem.

These rug pads are thick, with a good nonstick backing, but they have an awful chemical smell that reminds me of fireworks. My kids say it smells like a fart. The odor permeates the whole room and when I put them in my car to return, the smell filled up the car. I have considered washing them (i bought several) but I didn’t buy these to wash them right away due to odors! Putting them outside for a day and night did not help remove the odor.

Would be a great rug pad but smells AWFUL! After 3 weeks and mutliple attemps to air it out, lay it out in the sun, sprinkle with baking soda, etc., it is still all I can smell in my daughter's apartment. And it's not a good smell. Will be throwing it away.

We put this pad down today, and within a few hours our whole house smelled like a bad perm. We took the pad to the garage, laid the rug over our outside dining set to air out, Febrezed the couches, Swiffered the floors, opened the windows, and most of the smell seems to be gone now. The smell is unfortunate as the pad was actually pretty nice and added a good amount of cushion to our rug.

I love it, it makes my rug more softer for my toddler. The only thing about it is the smell. It makes my whole house smell like burnt hair. My husband came home from work and immediately he said the house stinks. So we looked around to see what the problem was and it was the rug pad. I looked at the reviews before I bought it and nothing said anything about a smell.

I like that this pad is made in the USA. However, the felt is coarse and very rough. I planned to use this felt side down to protect my new linoleum floorand pad the uncoated rag rug on top of it, rubber side up. I am returning for another softer option I hope to find.
1 reply from From the Manufacturer team - 5 months ago
We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the product and hope that you were able to get this resolved with Target. The felt side of the dual surface rug pad is meant to be rough as that side is meant to grip carpet fibers to prevent slipping.
