Book Synopsis
When Kira, a senior in high school, hears from the authorities that they have changed her mother's status from missing to presumed dead, she refuses to accept it. There was never a body.
Kirakee is a shy and lonely wolf. She endures in a fallen wolf kingdom, excluded, and betrayed, trying to overcome the loss of her loved ones.
Kira makes a desperate plea to the powers of the universe for her mother to be found, for better things to come, to be surrounded by loved ones once more. That very same night, she dreams of a young wolf howling at the moon, making the same plea.
Only one thing eludes Kirakee. If she can apply what she lacks, only then will she be able to conquer the sinister forces that intend to hold her back from revealing the hidden secrets of the wolf kingdom.
Kira knows her dreams are just in her head. But they seem so real. She feels the warmth of the sun on her face, the scent of the forest trees. She sees the river running into the lake shimmering in the moonlight as clearly as if she were there.
In the distance sounds the faint howl of a wolf. Not everything is as it seems. Something dark and evil lingers in the forest.
This mystery fantasy about a divided kingdom and different worlds connecting in the most unexpected way is K.C. Morcom's debut novel, in which she tackles anti-bullying and anti-abuse themes. It is published as a full novel for the first time, after previously being published in 2018 with only some of the story scenes with illustrations.

Kirakee's Wolf Pack: Howl Upon the Moon by K.C. Morcom is a remarkable young adult fantasy with an anti-bullying theme. It follows Kira, who wants to find out what has happened to her mother as Kira can't accept that she is presumed dead even though there is no evidence of her being deceased. For now, Kira focuses on winning a scholarship at her new school, but unfortunately, due to her quiet nature, she becomes the target of bullying.
One night, Kira makes a desperate plea to the powers of the universe for her mother to be found and for better things to come.
However, that very same night, she dreams of a young wolf howling at the moon, making the same plea. Thus begins the story of a lonely wolf named Kirakee and a divided kingdom.
I can't remember when I last read such a wonderful, sad, and moving story with so many twists and turns packed with mystery, action, and adventure. This irresistible mystery fantasy about a divided kingdom and different worlds that unexpectedly connect is well worth reading. I was highly impressed by Kirakee and her strength to rise even though she was repeatedly bullied, betrayed, excluded, and forced to overcome the loss of her loved ones.
Kirakee's Wolf Pack: Howl Upon the Moon by K.C. Morcom evoked emotions of sadness in me, as well as frustration and empathy toward all victims of bullying and domestic abuse. This action-packed novel containing beautiful black and white illustrations is perfect for animal lovers, especially those fond of wolves.
