KitchenAid 5qt Black Studded Ceramic Bowl

I just want to cry. While making bread dough this morning, I used my mixer to knead the dough. Twenty seconds in my bowl split in two. Breaks my heart, because the only reason I bought the mixer i have is for this beautiful black bowl. I take good care of all of my kitchen appliances. Not made very well

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Kitchenaid 5 quart black studded ceramic bowl is both beautiful and functional. Not only can I use it for my mixing with my tilt-head mixer but I can also use it for serving which means one less dish to wash. The other reason I love this bowl is because I like to leave my mixer on the counter and this bowl is very decorative and less utilitarian looking than the original metal one. Besides looking so cool the outside studs make it super easy to grip, I don’t have to worry about it slipping out of my hands. Besides being the same 5 qt size as the original metal bowl the ceramic bowl securely locks into place and is just as easy to clean with its smooth interior finish. I highly recommend this bowl because it’s both beautiful and functional!

We can obviously use this with our mixer, but frankly it's good just sitting on the countertop as a serving bowl while we're hosting friends. It's particularly striking with our white kitchen and it catches the light well with how it is studded. It's solid and well made, a thing of quality. Overall I'm very pleased with this and it's now a regular kitchen fixture.

Generally it works great and clips into my mixer just fine, but since it doesn’t have a handle, it’s really hard to unclip especially if you have a heavy or greasy batch of dough; it’s hard to find a place to hold on and turn! That’s said, I still love the look and will use the bowl for simpler uses.

The bowl is a nice thick, sturdy ceramic and is matte on the outside and shiny on the inside. It fit into my mixer perfectly and works like a charm. This bowl is well made, looks nice, has good texture, and that texture helps resolve issues with lacking a handle. It fits perfectly and snugly so that it doesn’t move. I like having an extra bowl so that I don’t have to keep washing the original bowl when I’m cooking. It’s not too heavy but I do wish the bowl had a handle. That is the only downside of this ceramic bowl. But I love the look of this ceramic bowl with my mixer when it is always on my counter. Since I bake often, I leave my mixer on the counter and the bowl looks so much nicer than the metal one and I think the black goes well with the stainless mixer. The ceramic has a matte finish and “studded” pattern could also be described as a waffle pattern. In addition to upgrading the look of my mixer the bowl has practical benefits as well since it is safe to go in the freezer, microwave, oven and dishwasher. I have melted butter and softened cream cheese in the microwave and proofed dough in a warm oven. And no more hand washing, it is going in the dishwasher! So far no chips and it has a 5 year warranty to back it up.
