Q: Does this help to reduce the smoke coming out of the pan when frying a steak, for example?

A:Â I have one. It does cut down on smoke and steam better than just a spatter screen.. Beyond a splatter screen, it ABSORBS odors. Let me repeat that it absorbs odors, not just prevents odors from escaping. Searing fish no longer stinks up my entire house. it is hard to believe, it works so well.. as for the size, it's large for my pans, but doesn't matter, I just place a section over the pan, and do not open the handle but rather use it like a handle on a lid. and honestly don't see any reason to ever open the handle up for any size pan. Since I never deep fry anything, I don't if I will ever need to open the handle. To each their own!

This item claims to be dishwasher safe but it isn't... I put it in the dishwasher and it got ruined. Not sure what happened since it has been in the dishwasher quite a few times (I only put it in there when it gets really greased up from cooking). Target didn't want to do much when it came to helping out with a replacement which was upsetting. I wouldn't spend the $20 on something like this again.

i'm very intimidated when cooking with oil and this works great. it keeps the stove clean too by catching the oil spatter and absorbs the smell well. i haven't cleaned this by hand, i usually just throw it in the dishwasher and it stays clean.

So I have never owned one of these before... I will never go without one again! If you look at the photo, there is some light grease on my tea pot and some drops of grease. I made fried chicken sandwiches tonight. The drops are from me being clumsy moving the chicken to a plate and the light amount on the teapot is from me lifting up the screen to remove and place new chicken in my pan. I only hand wash this so I am not sure how the dishwasher will affect it. I haven’t tried bacon yet but I know it’s going to be a game changer! Worth every penny.

I bought and used this in the same day and am pleased with the purchase. I have it 4 just because I have used it once. It hasn’t been washed and is currently in dishwasher. But if the metal tarnishes or melts or whatever other reviews said, it won’t bother me because I bought this for a use and not for looks.

This has been a lifesaver for cleanup on my new stove. Every time we cook, we have to do a full wipe down because of how much splatter there is but this has drastically reduced that. What I don’t like is that parts of it is already discolored after a few uses as if I applied high flames directly to it. The first few times there is also a very distinct chemical smell that comes from the screen which is not appetizing when you’re trying to cook. Luckily the food doesn’t absorb that smell and it eventually goes away the more you use and clean it. For the price, it gets the job done.

Works GREAT, but the carbon layer is already torn

It works VERY well. This made a night-and-day difference from my previous cheap splatter guard. The reason for the low number of stars is because after four months of use (about three times/week), the inside carbon layer is already damaged. It is completely torn along the metal support lines. We are going to exchange it for a new one and try again, as this really does work great!
