Q: Is the cord the only part that causes the prop65 warning? The earlier answer did not answer this specifically. Yes the cord causes prop 66 warning, but are there more parts that cause this warning as well?

submitted by Kate - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi Kate, The warning in your Use and Care Guide is printed in order for Whirlpool Corporation to be in compliance with California state law. In the State of California there exists what is referred to "Proposition 65." Proposition 65 is the California Safe Drinking and Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. Any company that operates in California, sells its products in California or manufactures products that may be sold or brought into California is subject to Proposition 65. Since our products are sold in California, Proposition 65 applies to us. Proposition 65 requires warning labels on any product that may contain or produce any of the 600-plus elements that the California Air Resources Board considers carcinogenic or a reproductive toxicant. These elements include lead (contained in the solder used to attach electronic parts to the printed circuit boards), brass, PVC and a multitude of other everyday elements and gas products burn fuels (natural gas or propane) that contain trace levels of chemicals on the list. This list also contains a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals, including common household products, foods, drugs, dyes and solvents. Whirlpool is committed to manufacturing safe and high quality appliances, as we always have done. Should any product contain or produce even the slightest amounts of chemicals on the list, even when accepted and regulated concentrations are not exceeded, Whirlpool will liberally warn consumers even though we fully comply with the Act.

Cheap Materials

I'm very saddened by how cheap this feels in my hands. I had a cuisinart one that is like 10+ years old and its really heavy duty. This one feels like it will easily break. For this reason, I sent it back. I've never bought any kitchenaid items before, but have seen rave reviews for the brand, so I figured they had to be the best of the best. With seeing and feeling the immersion blender in my hands, I don't understand where the raving reviews are coming from.

Great blender, but just stopped working

I really enjoyed this blender while it was working. However after less than a year of owning it just stopped working. It will turn on for a minimum of 3 seconds then will just make a buzzing sound and not mix anything. It worked really well when I first got it but now will not even mix liquid let alone anything remotely solid

it won't work on anything harder than soft berry puree. Weak and useless blender. I tried to mix cottage cheese. After a couple of dives, the blender stopped. Every couple of seconds I had to clean up the blades.

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I bought this hand blender about a month ago and let me tell you it won't disappoint you, it's strong, reliable from making mayonnaise to blending your soup. Easy to clean and to assemble. Used a few different brands in the past and let me tell you they won't beat this big boy!

The cup is not microwaive safe

Margarita - 8 months ago
the blender itself is great, I really enjoy using it. The problem is the cup. Most of the recepies with chocolate require you to heat the chocolate first to make it liquid and I thought to microwave it directly in the plastic cup instrad of microwaving chocolate in a separate bowl and then transfering it to the cup. But turns out the cup is not microwave safe, it melted and almost started a fire. I know tgat I was supposed to read the description first to make sure it's not microwave safe, but nowadays almost all plastic dishes, containers, cups, etc are microwave safe so it was a big surprise to me.

ChadaX - 8 months ago
I purchased this when the motor in my Cuisinart hand blender (which I loved) stopped after 7 plus years. I just knew I was upgrading with this being a “Kitchenaid” but I couldn’t purée even the softest of foods without it turning off within seconds of blending and that’s not even the frustrating part. The frustrating part is that you can’t turn it back on. You literally have to wait like 10 or more minutes before you can use it again. I love how it looks but its functionality is awful. I highly do not recommend this product.
