Description

About the Book

Sport is far from apolitical. Winning a gold medal can have a more positive impact on a country than many diplomatic or economic actions. Sport has become a key element of international power, and states are well aware of this. Just look at the Arab countries, which use it as a tool to whitewash their controversial policies. No supranational organization has as many members as the International Olympic Committee. This gives it unprecedented global influence, but also makes it a target for constant pressure. Achieving consensus among all its members is a monumental challenge. Although Olympism is in good health today, this has not always been the case. In this book, we also explore its darkest moments. This book is a collection of stories and facts. A meticulous chronicle of moments--both sporting and political--that did not always receive the media coverage they deserved. From Athens 1896 to Paris 2024.

About the Author
