About the Book
"Lali has worked hard to earn money for a special treat--but should she spend her earnings on herself or her friends?"--Book Synopsis
Lali has worked hard to earn money for a special treat--but should she spend her earnings on herself or her friends? Lali works hard to earn some money while her animal friends watch. She stirs. She stokes. She pounds. She pours. Then off she goes to the market on the twisty-curvy, dusty, stony, prickly, sizzly-wizzly path. What shall she buy with the jingle in her pocket? Lentils for Hen? Berries for Goat? Ribbons for Bird? Or perhaps a lovely pair of flip-flops for her poor tired feet. But when Lali returns home and sees her friends' disappointed faces, sherealizes that while hard work pays off, generosity also has rewards.Review Quotes
"As in Zia and Coleman's previous book, Lali's Feather (2020), the text has a playful lyricism driven by clever use of onomatopoeia accompanied by warm, appealing illustrations."--Kirkus Reviews "Zia's zesty text uses strategic repetition, bouncy rhythms, and entertaining onomatopoeia to create a spirited tale with broad read-aloud appeal. Coleman's digital illustrations employ spare backgrounds combined with a bright color palette comprised of oranges, pinks, and greens to keep young readers focused on the action and Lali's boundless energy."--The Bulletin for the Center of Children's Books
About the Author
Farhana Zia spent her early years in Hyderabad, India, and her stories blend humor and tradition, memories and contemporary moments. A retired elementary school teacher, she is the author of picture books and middle grade novels. She lives in Massachusetts and enjoys reading, writing, and making French macarons. Stephanie Fizer Coleman is an illustrator with a penchant for playful color and rich texture. Having grown up in a rural area surrounded by nature, it's no surprise that furry and feathered creatures are her favorite subjects to draw. She has created the art for many children's books, including Lali's Feather, Bird Count, and Bioblitz. When she's not drawing, Steph can be found sipping tea and reading books. She lives in West Virginia with her husband and two dogs.Dimensions (Overall): 10.0 Inches (H) x 8.1 Inches (W) x .4 Inches (D)
