Men’s measuring guide

Use the tips & visuals in this guide to take body measurements accurately & easily.

Don't have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Chest

With arms at your sides, measure around the fullest part of your chest & shoulder blades, keeping the tape level & snug.

  • Waist

Bend slightly to one side. The crease is where your natural waistline is. Measure a comfortable loose, level line around that point.

  • Inseam

Take a pair of pants that fit well. Now measure along the seam from the crotch to the leg opening.

Bought myself an early Christmas present and timing was perfect. Best buy ever. First day I wore it we had a record low 17 degrees wind chill 14. When I opened it I thought man this is heavy-but thank God. It’s been perfect for the coldest, nastiest, longest winter ever. I’m in Eastern Md. & we are not used to this! This parka is super- great fit, plenty of pockets, fine color (forest green not at all like the olive drab ones I got for free in the sixties). Plus it doesn’t make me look like a sausage as do the “stylish” puffers. Glad to have it in my arsenal! I am 5’ 10’ 170.

My husband needed a new parka. Nothing was working for him. I told him he needed to try this. After a few more failed attempts he said to order it. Bingo! It was long enough to cover his butt and has multiple pockets two outside at the hip and 2 more inside the coat at same area. He looked for an inside chest pocket and I showed him the 2 outside chest zip pockets. Lastly it is very warm and it takes care of his allergies. The sealed seams and finely woven material don't shed duck fuzz. Maybe that is the new washing procedure too. PS: Snaps as well as a zipper were a hit. But whatever, this coat filled the bill and is also nice looking. They go together well.

This is an extremely warm coat. It was just what I needed for the unusually cold winter. The coat appears to be well made and should last for years.

I decided to upgrade my old Lands' End Expedition parka that I've had since 2007. The newer editions are fantastic! The coat has a more tailored appearance and fits perfectly, while somehow being warmer than my old one. I'm 6'1" 180lbs and got the medium size. Big easy zipper, lots of pocket options, ways to customize the fit, etc. We've had some days with windchills below zero here in WI this winter, and this parka passes the test!

Runs large. I generally wear a size Large in most every coat, jacket or shirt. I am 6'2" at 175 pounds. This size Large Tall was like a big sack on me. I have sent it back and will order a size Medium Tall to see if it fits better. The quality of the coat is fabulous. I can't wait to get one that fits.

The Expedition Parkas are awesome. I got the Women's style last year and had to get my partner one this year when they went on 1/2 off sale. Such a great deal! And, he loves it. The coat has so many great pockets and is so warm and cozy. Love the hood too! Fit is TTS.

Good for most winter days but not below zero

I live in northern Ohio and purchased this parka in December 2023. Although we don't frequently experience temperatures below zero these days, there were a few weeks in January with negative temps. My opinion on this coat is this: it's really too warm to wear above 40° , and below zero it's not what I'd want to be wearing for an extended period of time. It'll keep you from freezing but you're not going to be happy. However, between 10°-25° it's a great winter coat. I have the burgundy color, which is quite attractive, and the coat is roomy without being too bulky. It has plenty of pockets, inside and out. The fur trim around the hood is easily removed and it looks fine without it on. I wish the outer pockets were angled better for my hands, but the fleece lining is a nice touch. Overall, it's a nice coat for most typical cold winter days in Ohio, but for frigid temps it's not quite warm enough.

    Great Coat, Great Price

Great coat at a great price. I looked for a waterproof, warm parka and ordered this because the description and price were right for me. It has proven to be an excellent choice. I am 5'7" and 140 lbs so i ordered a size small. The fit is perfiect. It is not bulky but roomy enough to wear a sweatshirt and quilted vest beneath it. To date, the coldest in Southern Delaware has been 15 degrees with 25mph winds and I have been very warm with good head gear and gloves. There are plenty of pockets for all my dog-walking items and they are in all the right places, inside and out. The only negative, the sleeve patch.

    Reliable piece of gear

I bought this coat back in 2019 for me and the women's version for my partner. It's a really great coat with a lot of features that make it really useful. Tons of pockets to stash tour gloves, hat, scarf and other winter items. The shoulders are gusseted for extra range and the storm cuffs keep snow out. The faux fur actually helps with cross winds and keeping snow out of your face. Just about every where you need there is a way to adjust the coat. The shell is robust and the down is plenty for most uses. I always reach for it for snowstorms and temperatures in the teens. You probably wouldn't actually want to use for expedition but for 99% of harsh weather in northern parts of the US where it occasionally gets into the negatives its really great. The first time I used the coat was in Acadia in a November where they had a winter snap and all the paths were frozen over with thick ice covering the rocky paths. Gusts of wind from the ocean made it extra cold. Ambient temps were probably in the low teens in the middle of the day. Most people decided to stay home and we had the whole park to ourselves. I was super happy with the coat after it's first outing. I barely felt the wind hit me and by the time I was actually moving I was cooking in this coat. I'm 5'6 and 150 lbs and the small fit just right with room to layer. It's really reliable piece of gear. Some things I wish they improved? I think they should shoot for at least 650 down, bring back the fun colors, I have a black and red one which is too cool. I noticed the new ones use snap buttons instead of zipper + velcro on the main zipper/storm flap. I think the velcro was way faster and actually useful. I really dislike snap buttons on winter gear since you're more often than not wearing gloves and it's hard to get things to snap. Same with the main lower pockets. Older version used a large button which I thought worked well enough with gloves on. I find on mine the hood will rest on my head a little too much. It's a heavy jacket so this can get annoying if you're walking around carrying weight on your head. These are all nit picky things, I still think its an awesome coat.

I bought another Lands End coat almost just like this one last year. I love it so much that I just bought this one today. Now I have two different colors. I recommend these coats to anyone in the market for a great winter coat. I know people that have purchased similar coats for 4 to 5 times more money and I’d stack my coats up to theirs in terms of quality and utility.

    Solid Jacket with Uncomfortable Pockets

    4 out of 5 stars

I have had this jacket for about a week, so these are my first impressions. Overall, it seems great for the price. I have only gotten to test it in temps as Low as the High 30’s and it was very warm. Pros: Value for the money - Competitors down jackets do this caliber are much more expensive (I did get it on sale). Warmth - seems fine in the high 30s with only a long sleeve shirt underneath Neutral: Weight - The only data I could find was that the average weight of all the sizes is four pounds. That is a similar weight to a competitors warmest jacket, but it still is by far my heaviest jacket. Cons: Hip pockets - the cut or entrance to the pocket is parallel to the seam of the side of the jacket. This makes it a 90 degree entry for you hand/arm. Given the entry angle and that there is not much fabric “give” at the pocket means I find it quite uncomfortable to stick my hands in the pockets. This is the natural place to put your hands when you’re wearing this coat in the weather it’s designed for (COLD!), so the fact that the pockets are so uncomfortable is a big negative for me. The saving grace WOULD be the front button pockets that are also in a natural place for your hands, but they are not insulated. Other notes: - Go down a size. I’m a solid size Large and it was too big. - I have had no issues with the front main zipper as I saw another user did.

I like the coat except that there is no drawstring around the face of the hood. Cold air comes in and shoots down through the neck opening. I can wear a scarf to help with the neck but that doesn't help for my head. There seems to be no way to fix that.

Bought as a replacement for a NorthFace parka that got me through a decade of Chicago winters and several in the Rockies. The cranberry color is gorgeous - not too bright but still striking. The brown faux fur is more life-like than usual and looks great. I'm 6', 200 lbs and the fit is loose, which I like - definitely more toward 44 than 42. It's a big, quite heavy coat, with broad shoulders and quite long (in the body and sleeves). It has a lot of heft to it. Only one of the pictures looks accurate (the seated guy in blue) - the others are waaaay too small and form fitting. I've only tested it this morning in 20 degree overcast temps. I was perfectly comfortable for 30 minutes with only a cotton sweatshirt on underneath, but a little surprised it wasn't even warmer. And I can see what some people say about the sleeves - I felt the cold penetrate the sleeves more than the body. Not bad at all, but I felt it. I'm in Colorado and bought this mainly for dog walking. Days below 10 f. are unusual here and with a little layering this will be fine, and easy with as roomy as it is. I love the way it looks and the construction seems superior. The fabric is thick and seems very durable. Zipper briefly stuck already and hopefully that will stop after a couple uses (zippers are always the weak link...)
