All of our temperature rating testing is completed at the renowned Kansas State University, the first lab to develop the modeling for metabolic rates. We know everyone's comfort level varies; the temperature ratings are a guideline to assist customers with comparing our coats. The Lower Temperature in the rating represents the temperature at which the jacket will keep most people comfortable when wearing insulating layers such as hats, gloves, snow pants, etc. or increased activity. The Higher Temperature in the rating represents the temperature at which the jacket will keep most people comfortable when you're wearing seasonally appropriate clothing without extra layers. Lands’ End strives to provide the highest quality products and addressing concerns when needed. Your feedback has been forwarded to the appropriate product manager for further review. We encourage our customers to return following our return policy when a product has not met their expectations. The down filling will compact over time and will clump during the wash cycle. It is important to dry your jacket in the dryer following care instructions to "refluff" the down insulation. For best results, we recommend placing 2-3 clean tennis balls in the dryer when drying your down items to help prevent the down from staying clumped together and allowing it to dry completely. Wool dryer balls do not have enough weight to be effective in breaking up the down clumps during the drying cycle.
