Description

About the Book

Now, at last, there is a comprehensive and readable guide designed to help librarians, scholars, and the general public quickly find the legal information they need. While most legal research books focus on the needs of beginning law students or litigants, Legal Information takes a broader view of the law, including its value in other disciplines. It explains why legal information exists in certain formats, and describes how to get the most out of the major legal reference tools. It also suggests the best sources for different kinds of information and explains how these resources compare to other available materials.

?Can a book on legal research be informative, well-written and witty? If you thought the answer was no, then you should pick up a copy of...Legal Information: How to Find It, How to Use It....a thorough, well-researched, thoughtful, and informative work....appears to be the first research book of the new generation that integrates traditional and electronic research in a seamless fashion....For any librarian who ever has to undertake legal research this book is indispensable.?-Journal of Government Information

?Usefully, throughout the book, these electronic forms are given coverage under the kind of information they provide rather than by focussing on the electronic type....There is also a good cross-reference index. This along with the list of exhibits (illustrations) and tables gives good sighposting within the book....Make no mistake, a lot of very detailed work has gone into this publication...One very handy feature is the list of topics covered at the beginning of each chapter. This acts as a summary of what is covered in the chapter and makes for easy referencing by users....It is probably a very practical and useful guide to carious groups....such as the general public, students, lawyers, law librarians etc. and anyone else needing to know where to find US legal information.?-Managing Information
