    Superb set

Unbelievable building experience sad to finish it no idea why it gets negative reviews, lost the use of my left arm after a stroke 2 years ago and have found Lego in general great therapy, bit more of a challenge building with one hand but have built about 150 sets and this has been my favourite so far kept me busy for 2 days

    Not my most favourite build

In all honesty I found this a frustrating, fiddly and not as enjoyable build compared to some of the other icon/vehicle sets I have done. The overall fit left a built to be desired, from a distance it looks ok but not so great up close. The roof is better left done and the front head lights look like an after thought. So it’s ok, but not great

One of my top 10 builds!

As an 11 year old influencer, I can tell you that this is one of my top ten builds. I have built over 100 sets this year and this one was a great build! I did not find it difficult all. The features are absolutely amazing!

    Avoid this build

The worst build I have ever come across. I read the reviews of others struggling with the bonnet design and build. I originally thought that it was down to inexperience of building but now I completely see their point. What could’ve been solved very easily with the build and design of the bonnet means that when building it and even after you have finished, the slightest touch means the whole frame comes apart. The only way to solve this is by taking it apart piece by piece back to the when you first start assembling the front end. I am a confident and experienced LEGO user and this has been an awful experience of a build, so much so that I’m hesitating to buy again. The Jaguar car has now been left half assembled with the front end missing. I highly encourage all builders to stay away from this project

    Dream Car

I’ve loved the classic Jaguar E-Type since the first time I saw one as a kid, so this LEGO version was an automatic purchase for me the day it was released. I really enjoyed the build experience. There were some interesting new techniques for me and a few tricky/challenging steps, but I took my time and fortunately I did not have the frustrations that some previous reviewers encountered. The retractable soft-top is a marvelous feature, however, the black fabric is an insatiable dust magnet that can only be effectively cleaned by vacuum or lint roller, so my LEGO Jag resides within a clear acrylic display case. The completed build looks so cool and is a great display piece. Overall, this is one of the nicest Icons cars in my collection.

    With patience, a wonderful set

Ordered this before release. Built one bag a night over 10 evenings. I can see why some are saying it was a fiddly build, but by taking time. and supporting parts of the build when adding certain sections it helped to stabilise the car. The folding roof design is superb in how it works, and beginning the whole build with the construction of a toolbox was a nice touch. Finally, the additional features related to the story of 77 RW's 17 hour journey from Coventry to the Geneva Motor Show were a nice touch.

    A real classic

I have just completed my build and it was very enjoyable. For me the weakest points are the bumpers, which are connected by a single point so they easily fall off. The folding roof is clever, sitting nice and flat when down , although it would have been nice if it connected to the top of the windscreen. Overall I’d give it a 9/10 for the finished product and the building experience and 8/10 for durability. It will be displayed with the roof down in a Perspex display box.

    A headache to build!!

First of all, if this hadn’t been a gift, I would have returned it after bag three. It is poorly designed, some colors are hard to use with the manual and you should have extra hands to hold the 1600 pulse pieces from completely falling off. The design team must have been on a time table to get this into production and in stores. It brought back bad memories of both T2 and the Shelby Mustang builds. Some small parts aren’t designed to hold other parts from clicking together. The final build looks good, but, I wouldn’t dare move it!!

    Nice addition

One of my all-time favorite vehicles. The build was fun but super fragile. I’ve had to continually put pieces back as I add new parts. A bit frustrating. Not my favorite vehicle build

The Nostalgia is Strong with This One

I bought this set for my father on his 84th birthday. He had never been into Legos before, but he used to test cars for a racing team back in the 1960’s, and he often mentioned a Jaguar that he had especially loved. I took a gamble and bought this set, because the timeline matched and I thought there was an off chance that it might resemble that car. What I didn’t realize was that it was an exact match in terms of make and model, even down to the bottle green color. Despite being a Lego novice, he threw himself into this build, and he spent hours at the kitchen table putting this car together. It was NOT an easy process… he especially struggled with some of the fiddly one-stud pieces (of which there were many). However, he seemed to be having so much fun even during the more challenging parts of the build, and perhaps age has given him the patience to keep on going… or even backtrack to find that he had put part of the build together incorrectly, take it apart, and put it back together correctly. He delighted in the engineering of the build, marveling at how the pieces would come together in ways that he did not expect and form a part of the car that he did not expect (e.g., steering, engine block). I frequently heard murmurs of “I’ll be darned” and “Now that’s just clever”. Best of all, though, he was flooded with memories of this time of his life, and he would share them with me as he was building. In other words - yes, the build was challenging (especially for an 84-year-old newbie!), but it was so, SO worth it. It was never just about the build for him, but about the sense of wonder and nostalgia. Thank you, Lego… this was magical!

    Fascinating build

This was truly a fascinating build.. As previous reviewers have stated there are some fragile connections, but I did not encounter any of the problems they have had with the build. And the completed model was transported from home to the office with only one piece (one of the headlights) coming detached during the move. I bought this (and many of the cars) just to see how LEGO was able to create the shapes of these models, and this model probably (with the Cobra from last year) had the most potential for issues. And mostly their solutions worked incredibly well. There were several times where you would make mini-builds that look like nothing, and when assembled to the main car it made perfect sense. I am baffled with how the designers do some of these things, but in a good way. Overall, a very fun, challenging build, with the end result looking fantastic.

    Bob Berry would be proud

Absolutely wonderful lego model fits in with the rest of my lego Car sets and proud to have more British engineering representation. All the functions of this car are amazing and it really catches the curves of the E type. I was sceptical of the lights but the irl product looks much better than photos. Even better that it is 77RW Showing of the historical feat of Bob Berry’s mind blowing drive and his legacy.

    Frustrating build

Like other reviews here I have also found this to be a frustrating build. The model starts off well but soon becomes overtaken by too many small parts. I know Lego needs to try to add curves etc but when you are adding sections that are made up of small parts and they dont fit first off ...it just leads to other bits coming adrift. There are several instruction sections that should of been added together instead of doing one bit, then building more bits only to come back to add one tiny stud to a previous build that is fiddly to get to. The bonnet assembly, in my book, looks fine, but the way they have secured it is weird. it attaches by normal blocks at the windshield end but clips at the front. Its the clips that cause the problem as they can move. Dont line it up right...watch out. This is also the same for the boot. The boot needs to slid in using rods. The part you are attempting to slid the rods into into also moves . My first attempt I missed one side and broke part of the boot area which meant having to try to repair without breaking down the whole area. The roof...just looks wrong! But it does fold down nicely and that is where it will stay !! Overall am I happy with this build. No not really. It looks nice. I like the green. I have lots of cars (Land Rover, De Lorean, Ghostbusters, James Bond Aston Martin, VW Capervan etc etc etc etc) and this is the only one I stopped building....walked away from it for 3 days before commencing again. Next time I'm going to download the building instructions before placing an order !!

Poor build quality despite beautiful design

This was a real let-down and one of the most frustrating kits to build (and ultimately enjoy post-build). I bought it the minute I saw it advertised as the E-Type is my favourite ever car, and so to see Lego tackle it (and the gorgeous lines that the designer managed to achieve), was insanely exciting. But the build quality, and the build experience itself, are really poor. The red bricks that are supposed to steady it during the build just snap off, and so on several occasions when fitting one piece, others fell off when trying to push them on. It's a really rickety and fragile build. The bonnet is the worst piece of the design as it's just held on by such a small pair of hinges that it's too delicate to push pieces on around it, and it falls off while building. Worse, it wobbles once built too - and I don't remember the E-Type being known for a bonnet which moves ten degrees in either direction. The boot also doesn't close properly once opened, you have to half slide it back into position. The other slightly disappointing element was the lack of Easter eggs in it - there's perhaps one nod (as far as I can remember) to its history in terms of a map next to the driving seat. Overall this was a really irritating and frustrating build and I didn't enjoy it. Sad thing is that it's also so poorly built that I can't really show people the smartness of some of the lines as it's too fragile. Massive disappointment.

    Spectacular set

I felt the need to write a review for this because there are some wacky negative reviews here. This was such an amazing set to build, with techniques I've never seen before and amazing stability despite these techniques involving a lot of 1-stud type pieces that don't lock exactly into place. The designers went the extra yard to ensure that they weren't asking you to do anything ridiculous, even though the building process made me literally say "wow" out loud multiple times. And it just looks amazing when it's done, with really cool features to boot! Those who had bad experiences with this set, not counting issues of missing pieces (and the slight color inconsistency, which is a valid criticism), likely were not being precise enough with their single-stud piece rotation and were not checking for full piece joining along the way. Or may have just messed up some steps. For me, sets like this that are complex, require focus and precision but are intuitive and well-designed are peak lego. Hoping for more like this! This was way more interesting than the Porsche 911 and even more interesting in a certain way than the 8:1 technic cars.

    A poorly designed kit

I like to think of myself as a seasoned Lego builder, having made numerous kits over the years. However, the Jaguar E Type build has taken frustration to a new level. I have given up on this build and have had to store it away for (maybe) another day! The problem is in the bonnet assembly design, it is simply not stable during construction. Just as one bit clicks into place, another half a dozen bricks decide to fall off. I have always loved building Lego sets as I find them therapeutic, but this set has completely the opposite effect. I can't help but think that design wise someone has "dropped the ball" on this one
1 reply from LEGO® Customer Service team - 30 days ago
