The wire size of this extension cord is what they call heavy duty. The next size up is #12AWG and good for 20 amp. ;). I've been in this electrical business since 1978 and retired now. With that being said the #12 AWG will handle the heavier load but this 14AWG in most cases will be fine. Bottom line, "That's my story and I'm sticking to it".... (#14AWG) which is rated at 15 amps
