Lyric Sunflower Kernels Wild Bird Seed for Outside Feeders, No Waste Bird Food, Attracts Finches and More, 5 lb Bag

The birds (and squirrels when they can get to them :) ) love these kernels. I love Black-capped Chickadees so much and they crowd the feeder along with 3 or 4 species of woodpeckers. All these birds are fun to watch especially as they jockey for a place at the feeder.

Most of my birds are nesting right now but the few that I do have in the garden are enjoying the sunflower seeds. After a week, there has been no mess. Hope it stays that when the nesters return.

This isn't a mixture; it's just sunflower kernels, but it appeals to a wide variety of birds, and sunflower seeds are packed with the nutrition and energy they need. I love that this is just the kernels and no shells. That means there's virtually no mess on the ground underneath my feeder because the birds actually eat any of the seed that falls to the ground. They get more energy for their effort this way, too, as they don't have to spend time pulling the seed out of the shell. There wasn't a lot of dust or broken bits in this bag, either--just five pounds of sunflower kernels! This product is definitely more expensive than other five-pound bird seed options, but the quality is undeniably better, MUCH better. I can't afford to make it my usual bird seed, but I will definitely give it to our backyard birds when I can, especially ahead of a heavy snow or ice storm. Great stuff!

Downy Woodpeckers and Blue Jays love it! We will be making more soon as they go through a block every two days!

They've always loved eating them and I could always count on sunflower seeds to be a big draw for them. Now they have found something they love even better! This Lyric Sunflower Kernels is just perfect for them. They can be lazy and eat faster because they don't have to shell the seed. They are gobbling it up and the squirrels are right behind them. Now I'm not one of those people who will begrudge a squirrel a meal so that's okay with me. As long as they leave some for the birds it's all good! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] At first I was disappointed, when I filled my feeder with these kernels, all of the birds left for a few days. That’s never happened before. Then a couple came around, then a couple more. It took a few weeks for the birds to finally empty the feeder me in the time I noticed a lot of doves had moved on, as well as the Blue Jays. But we were happy to see the Cardinals stayed. We noticed the smaller birds were the ones enjoying the sunflower kernels. Even had a parakeet stop by for a snack one day. So while I was disappointed and thought the birds didn’t like the new seed, it worked out in the end because it attracted more of the smaller birds and deterred the much larger doves that have been taking over my feeder. Miss the Blue Jays though.

Since there are no shells for the birds to crack open, there are no shells laying below the bird feeders. All food with no waste! The kernels attract many varieties of birds including chickadees, nuthatches, cardinals, woodpeckers and so many more.
