In Joshua 24:15, Joshua declares: "...Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

The prophet Daniel exhibited this same attitude, even as he dwelled in a land of many foreign gods. He never wavered nor pandered to the culture around him-even when faced with the punishment of death.
