Review Quotes
" Author John Peragine's action-adventure odyssey transports you to the stormy seas full of larger-than-life pirates, sea monsters, temperamental gods, and powerful magic. At times, Max and the Isle of Sanctus is like the book version of the Pirates of the Caribbean to fans of the movie franchise. Swashbuckling action, witty dialogue, and an engaging plot make this a thoroughly rewarding reading experience. The characters are colorful and full of life, with distinct personalities that make compelling character arcs. The narrative is filled with reveals and unexpected turns that you never see coming. Despite being the second book in a planned trilogy, Max and the Isle of Sanctus also functions as a standalone fantasy adventure novel. Recommended to kids and young adults."

"I believe this book is geared to the Middle grade/YA audience and it works for the entire family as well. Max must continue his journey to find not only his parents but answers to new questions about who he is, and who he wants to be. Much like any young person, the stress of events is taking its toll on him and he is learning how to handle that. Max is making mistakes and learning from them. What I love about this series so far is that although we have young teenage main character the writer does not dwell on the emotional drama. Max experiences the emotions such as anger and fear but he deals with them, and learns from each event. Max Daybreaker is becoming a role model for young people."

The second installment from Secrets of the Twilight Djinn does not disappoint. Yes, the book is geared toward middle grade readers, but that doesn't mean adults can't enjoy it too. Or, if you have a braver youngster (avid reader), they would most likely enjoy this well-crafted fantasy story. One of the things I liked the most about this book was this "chapter" of Max's life came to a satisfying conclusion, while still preparing us for the next "chapter" in the book series, which will hopefully come out in early 2022. It did not feel like an interim book, of which I've read plenty, where the author is simply moving their main character to another place with a few adventures, but the story doesn't really go anywhere. Max and the Isle of Sanctus was not like that. There was plenty of action, adventure, challenge, growth, difficulty, danger, destruction, deception, and rescue.
I highly recommend it!"
